I don't know much about him beyond this case, but there doesn't appear to be any violence associated with this crime. If he had robbed a liquor store or something the circumstances would be different.

And a good lawyer could make a compelling sob story for 90% of felons. Probably a better one for most of them, this kid having basically convicted himself of being a total shit in the public court of Twitter. You expect me to feel bad for him? Are you out of your fucking mind? :smt011

Interesting. I'm going to comment on this without reading any of the facts or remembering any I've read in the past clearly.

If you're being "bullied" on facebook... log off fucking facebook. Suicide based on facebook/twitter teasing is Darwinian in nature.

In this case though, I seem to think there was some kind of like videotaping the kid and publishing it online or something though? That's fucked up and an invasion of privacy. Still not worth killing yourself over, but a crime for sure.

I am glad we're deporting an illegal. We should do that more often.

He did wrong yes, but let the punishment fit the crime. Spying on someone isn't a crime that should be punishable up to 10 years plus deportation.

I feel that it is excessive.

You get a drug dealer or murderer in the same situation then my opinion will change. You get a kid who used a webcam to spy on his roommate and you have an arrogont priveledged individual who should probably do community service and see a therapist.

Well he's not an illegal, he's a green card holder.

And he didn't tape it, he streamed it on a webcam in someone else's dorm room. The first time he didn't really know what was going on in the room, the second time he posted on twitter "my roommate's bf is back let's have a viewing party" I'm not sure if they actually turned the webcam on the second time though or if it was a joke.

Ok, that's better. But there's a distinction to be made for having to stand up for yourself to a bully and dealing with the aftermath of being covertly filmed sucking dick and having it broadcast to who knows how many people.

We are (not me actually) only calling it bullying because bullies are in the cultural forefront right now. Is bullying a felony? I don't think so.

And although you joke about Emma (a lot), I would bet if the person who'd been filmed and killed themselves shortly afterwards had been a straight female the reaction here and elsewhere would be different anyway.

Hey, I agree with you on all aspects of this except that I don't think anything is worth killing yourself over. There's always something to live for, and the actions of some douchebag shouldn't ruin your life and the lives of your family.

Yes, it sucks that a video was posted on the internet. It's a violation of privacy, it's a crime that deserves to be punished, and it's just plain fucked up... but it's not the end of the world.
