Trust me, this whole stuff has done a number on my life. I've gotten back involved with friends who were in one branch of the service or another. I found out tonight one's thinking of going back in tonight. Any I can pretty much say It's at least in part because of this Ryan stuff.

It's not that as much. I don't really wanna get into my personal stuff that much, but it's caused a whole lot of soul searching and looking for answers personally. I mentioned some of it a few pages back so I don't really feel like going there again.

I know this is an old thread and all, but sure the guy is incredibly brave to go back to active duty. Fact is, that he was pretty ignorant and acted like an idiot. (They all acted like idiots on the show. Even the trannie, she should have just fessed up sooner and not beat around the bush.)

If anyone from the Real World was truly a hero and actually did contribute to the world, it was Pedro Zamora from San Fran. He put a face to the AIDS epidemic, showed people what living with AIDS was really like and how we shouldn't shun people. He did a lot to raise awareness, more than the government did at the time.

When it first broke out in the US, it was positively criminal how the government didn't do much for it just because it was being plastered as the gay disease at the time. I'm not saying that the Ron Regan administration was content to sit by and let it happen, but clearly there was a lot of head in sand going on there.

Probably my favorite moment of the show was when Pedro visited Rachel's parents and spoke to her mom's class. It was awsome to see a lot of barriers being crossed, if not completly broken.

Danny and Paul's story is up there too. Don't ask don't tell is a stupid rule and has actually hurt the War on Terror. Do you know how many Arabic speaking servicemen and women have been thrown out because they were gay? I think the number I heard was about 300. Stupid.

And in the end, Ryan's a hero to me, because his story has made an impact on my life. Nuff said.

Ryan's definitely a stand up guy.

He'd probably tell your friend he's crazy for re-enlisting because of him.

Hopefully this tour will be the final thing he has to go through with the army and he won't have to think that Afghanistan's next.

Sides, the army woudln't let him lose Baya now that he's got her would they? :)

Ryan's not the reason he's thinking of re-enlisting, btw. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

I think Ryan said this was the last time he would have to be IRR'd. I hope he gets back home sooner than later.
