Variety is reporting that Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment is eyeing Ryan Reynolds to star in the Highlander reboot.

"Ryan Reynolds has emerged as the front-runner to topline Lionsgate-Summit's franchise reboot, and though it's unclear whether an actual offer has been made, sources tell Variety that both sides are in talks and are very interested in working together. Insiders add that Reynolds is weighing other offers and that [he] could still pursue another project," says the trade.

In Highlander, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the Prize.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

You might think Green Lantern would have generated a reappraisal of his limitations and viability to gain that mass appeal.

Not really, but if done RIGHT, won't hurt. The franchise grew with the tv series and later films. With that sort of hindsight, they can loose the sexism (lack of women immortals at the end of it all) and start up a series of more films.

But... given this news... not happening the right way.

Wouldn't Highlander have to be good in the first place?

To be fair, Highlander has never had mass appeal. He still doesn't seem right for the role though.
