...superheroey?

Obviously it's even a longshot to see another Punisher movie in theaters.

But I was just wondering if having a normal bad ass kind of guy hunting more superheroic type threats might not make for something that people would like to see.

For one, it's something different than the typical revenge tale. In the world of movies, the Punisher is the same as dozens of other characters with nothing to really differentiate him. It makes it difficult to get anyone outside of comics to take interest in the character.

Two, it would make for some compelling action and story. Frank versus some superhero threats would make it pretty cool.

I dunno, it's just that 2 grim and gritty tales didn't really do shit for the franchise and it's hard to believe the same approach, even with a better script or director would yield more positive results.

I think it'd be an interesting idea. I've never minded Punisher getting involved with the other heroes of 616. I quite liked that there was a MAX Punisher and a 616 Punisher. In the end, both worlds were the same for me, they were both Frank Castle.

I personally liked War Zone the best, but I'd be shocked to see another movie. If anything use him as a character in someone else's movie... like in Spiderman or a second Daredevil.

I liked War Zone as well, despite its flaws. But obviously it wasn't drawing crowds.

So let's say you have a decent budget and you have to make a Punisher movie. What way do you think you would go in order to make a successful film?

I'd almost maybe do the Punisher in The 'Nam storyline.

I mean really how many more times can they do his origin?

I think the current Punisher comic has it right.

Set in the 616, but grounded.

The Punisher isn't necessarily the main character.. the Se7en-ish detectives following the wake of Frank's mayhem play just as big of a role, if not bigger.

Why would people be shocked to see another movie? Disney/Marvel didn't reacquire the rights for nothing.

Also, War Zone is hilarious and awesome.

Yeah, if anyone can make a good Punisher movie, I think Marvel can. Now that they have the rights, they can do it justice.

The only part about War Zone that I didn't like was all the neon lighting. Otherwise, it was basically Ennis' Punisher come to life.

I still doubt there will be another movie. The character may appear in someone else's movie but I'd be shocked if a fourth movie was made.

War Zone debuted worse than Howard the Duck, and the Thomas Jane version didn't do much better, call it a semi-success.

That could be cool. Seeing the character show up in SPiderman or DD and use some of that buzz (if any) to possibly spin a new film.

I think it would make for an awesome movie poster as well.

If only Sony didn't own Spidey.

I think it may work better in a DD film though. 1. the grittiness and 2. to give some added 'starpower' to DD. It could be a very cool subplot.

You'd probably have to go back to the Ennis well.

Aside from his run how many PUnisher stories out there could be called "THe essential punisher story"?, and then how many of them would be filmable?
