Shut up, Hank Steinbrenner

Postby MoneyMelon » Thu May 15, 2008 12:33 pm

I know we’re gonna come on at some point in this season, but right now, other than (Chien-Ming) Wang, (Mariano) Rivera, (Derek) Jeter, (Hideki) Matsui, (Johnny) Damon and (Mike) Mussina, after I got on him a little, we’re not doing jack (bleep).

Now he's taking credit for Mussina's success?

I like it better when he just plagiarizes General Patton's speeches

There's a good article in today's Star Ledger about how little power Hank really has within the organization. For Example:

1) In October, he said that A-Rod would never be a Yankee again. Result: A-Rod is committed to a long-term Yankee contact

2) He expressed willingness to trade a young pitching prospect for Johan Santana. Result: Johan is a Met while Hughes and Kennedy struggle

Maybe he needs to speak up :?

Actually, I agreed with both of those decisions.

I'm glad he doesn't have decision making power.

Big Stein would have brought us Johan. The Twins were so desperate we could have had him for Kennedy plus a marginal prospect.

I disagree. They obviously weren't as desperate as they were greedy. The Sox offered a shit load of talent for him, and they weren't satisfied.

I've heard about that trade, but I have a hard time really believing it.

I think the Twins were definitely negotiating from a position of strength and I can't imagine them settling for that when they had better offers from the Red Sox and Mets on the table.

If that trade was going to really get done, I think it would have cost at least Kennedy and Melky.

The Twins' greed diminished after the Sox stopped talking with them. They thought they could do better and waited too long to get something done. As a result, their position was weakened. The Mets stepped in with an inferior offer which the Twins almost had to take or they would have risked getting even less back.

I wish the Tigers would have traded Dontrelle Willis, Nate Robertson and prospects for Johan.
