chap22 wrote:true, there's not, but that's not what i'm arguing either. Cadmus was a long story arc; SSM is a lot of individual episodes. they just happen to also include running subplots, something none of the Timm stuff really did. plus they mix humor as well. ask anybody, writing good comedy's harder than writing anything else.

i'm not arguing that SSM is better than all of Timm's stuff, and i'm certainly not arguing that the Timm-DCu is bad or lacking in any way. you'll be HARD-pressed to find a bigger fan of BTAS, STAS, and the whole run of JL than me. all i'm saying is that from astorytelling standpoint, from a craft standpoint, SSM is just as exceptional.

and i'll give you that the character animation is better in the Timm-verse, but the action scenes in SM? wowzers. that's some great stuff.

Um..

the Darkseid stuff was a ongoing storyline too. You knew something epic was going to happen and boy did it happen.

Plus what about the mini subplots Superman had going on in his animated show? There's the Intergang, MPD, Steel, Metallo, and Brainiac ones as well. Plus that sun dude who was stalking Lois with that red herring cop who you knew something dirty was going on with him and we find out what in another episode.

Also how ye you forget what BTAS did in it's first season. Don't you remember they introduced HARVEY DENT first and then during the middle or end of the season introduced Two-Face?

It surprised me when this show used The Enforcers - that's old school knowledge right there. I also liked how they made Montana the Shocker instead of that Shutz guy.

It's a great show but it's not better than JLA Unlimited or Justice League.

That's crazy talk, counselor.

meh, not really. like i said, the Darkseid stuff was foreshadowed, and hinted at, but it wasn't REALLY a subplot per se.

and i don't count any of that other stuff as subplots either (except MAYBE the Harvey stuff)...it was more one-stop foreshadowing, then resolution later. it wasn't ongoing.

meh, it's fairly simple. Electro controls electricity, Shocker causes controlled vibratory pulses. kinda like emmabe's "melon-baller". ;-)

Shocker just has a dumb name b/c he doesn't actually shock.

Maybe. It has much potential. Don't get me wrong, it's good but the Timm universe set the bar REAL high.

While this show has a long way to go, it has a chance to become as beloved as any of the Timm shows. This is one of the best, most promising first seasons of any show ever.

For anyone else that cares like me, Spectacular Spider-Man TAS has been picked up for a second season on CW4Kids!! The producers are hoping that they can get the series to last at least 65 episodes, so that means at least a few more seasons could be in the works.
