I sent this to Project: Rooftop for their Spiderman redesign contest. There might be a little more time and I can send them something more. The costume was intended to be only black and white, with other color themes like the Future Foundation suit (so black and red, or red and blue).

Image

Would this work for Spiderman? What do you think about this?

The idea was to show the intensity between Peter (the man) and the spider, and to just make people think whether Peter is in control of the spider or whether the spider is in control of him given even the movement of the costume.
The spider is great power, while Peter (wants to be, or maybe is forced to be) great responsibility. This is why the costume is only in two colors.
I'll write more if you're interested.

I was attracted to the idea that Peter's life isn't really in his control and that he was pretty much forced to be responsible. That's why the spider and what happened is just surrounding Peter and isn't letting him go. Without those powers, he probably wouldn't be forced to be so responsible. Then again, he might not be forced to do anything and he's just "forcing" himself. I wanted the costume to attract people into that discussion.

I like it. You should show the different color schemes.

I also like your ideas behind the suit. I think it would make a cool Spidey-symbiote story, too.

Well I guess it's good that you like it since Spiderman is your favorite character.

I didn't think a lot about the colors. But I think a red (for the spider) and blue for the rest would work. You know, more and more, I think it be a little like Solid Snake's octocamo and face camo suit, even though I actually wasn't inspired by it (I made the Kirby drawing before I realized this). http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/image ... cecamo.jpg
Oh, I wanted to make the spider cover exactly as much area as the rest of the suit. But then I just decided to try balance the two out.
Another idea I didn't go through with was misplacing the spider. Oh, and having the spider be much bigger like the House of M suit. I really like that the

I don't see it as done, and I think I will work on the concept and the design more and experiment a lot more--but assuming some more work is done on it and it's improved, you guys would like to have this in a book?
To be honest, I think this is an excellent first step on my part given that I've never redesigned a suit before.
I'll post my notes and sketches for it now. In order too so you can see how it's changed (I liked seeing the idea evolve).

And yeah, I really liked the black and white symbiote costume. It's the closest one to mine. I'll try to see if I can color (I never colored anything before).

Hopefully my costume improves over time with some work. I don't want to just abandon this like some other things. I think I have something good on my hands. But I get the feeling that the rest of the designers are going to completely own me very badly hahaha
I looked at other redesigns of Spiderman and I think I stand a chance if the P: R redesigns are as good as those.

BTW, I like this

I like Spidey's classic look, but you did a damn good job here with an alternate suit. Very distinct, and very different, but still instantly recognizable as Spider-Man.

I really appreciate that. I know that the areas for the eyes are far removed from the classic's, but I think I can adjust those a little. I think this can really work as a sort of "Elseworlds" Spiderman mini or maxi series.
With my luck, this probably isn't gonna get mentioned in the honorable mentions section even. That's cool, but I thought you guys should check it out since a lot of you are Spiderman fans.
If you guys have any comments, please post 'em. Or if you don't like anything, feel free to mention it. I'm gonna leave the costume for a while (starting from tomorrow if the deadline is midnight tomorrow--I already sent them everything, but maybe I was early and I can a few things) and come back and review it completely, I'll probably do a lot more then if I'm still passionate about the germs of the idea I mentioned.

Waitaminute, don't tell me that this is actually the idea behind the symbiote costume in the first place (who's controlling who and all). I didn't even realize hahahahahaha. Thankfully that's only part of the idea behind the costume (the other part being the spider engulfing Peter).

I think the small eyes work with it. Don't sell yourself short here either. This is way better than most of his alternate suits. I even like it in the black and white colors. Very impressive.

No, I'm saying it would make a great idea for a symbiote story. The clash between great power (the Spider symbiote) and great responsibility (Peter).

I like the blue and red scheme the best.

But I'm not really a fan of how the design sweeps down across his hips and the outside of his thighs. It's too broad a pattern, I think. Maybe if the spider design was contained just to his torso instead of spreading down his legs.

Or maybe if the spider "legs" were drawn thinner, almost like piping, that run all the way down the front of his legs and feet, and do the same up the back of his legs.

Dunno.
