It's early spaceflight though. Space is still somewhat the wild west. In Enterprise, it took 4 days to get there, which I thought was actually fast. So days, yeah but hours? I found that a little... hard to believe.

And... are there any more ships left in Star Fleet? Sheesh the first movie blew up most of the fleet. This movie took out all the captains and admirals. Then Enterprise leaves Earth for its 5 year mission and leaves Earth unprotected.

Ever see a show called Stargate SG-1?
It's easy to believe. It's a straight line flight. Why should it be slow as in days? Hell, on Stargate they were going to another galaxy in 2 weeks. Why not here?

They blew up most of the fleet?! I could have sworn most of the fleet was at the Laurentien Cluster playing a show of force. But well... if a half dozen ships makes of the fleet or most of it as you say...

Oh yeah, if we learned one thing from Trek over the decades... only Kirk and ship named Enterprise can protect the Earth. Vulcan no, Earth yes. I guess Andoria, Telor and a bunch of classic alien members of the Federation got kacked since Kirk was not on the job yet with the Enterprise. After all... all the others died in that room... except Kirk... Spock... Admiral Bastard... and no other ships could go there in the time it took to rebuild a much fucked up Enterprise and protect the Earth.

"Oh, the pointing again! They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?"
""Timey" what? "Timey wimey"?"

psst... same damn thing in the end. Military in space exploring, fighting and bedding space babes.

The speed limits in classic were stupid. This makes more sense. It opens up the whole galaxy.

Not military (though it also had some military functions).

And limitations can be used to make good stories (and good science fiction vs science fantasy).

JJTrek transporters are stupid too.... dumb plot porters.

I had less problems with Abrams directing than I did with the story guys.

Wasn't as good as Wrath of Khan, but that's a silly bar to aim for anyway. Cumberbatch was amazing, and the rest of the cast had plenty of great moments each. I actually thought Chekhov was going to die after Kirk told him to 'put on a red shirt' early in the film. Glad I was wrong about that.

I liked the winky callbacks to Tribbles and Harry Mudd, I liked the use of Section 31 and I would have killed for more Klingons but on the whole I loved the whole thing start to finish. Spock using Old Spock as a cheat sheet was pretty great too because of course you would.

I really liked the humor. When the movie started I found myself looking forward to the funny bits. The beginning was really cool, and those aliens were cool looking.

Want to see it again but I doubt I will until the DVD comes out, too many other movies I want to see.

I had some problems with it, too much stuff that was similar to the first one but I still loved it. I thought the movie was ending after they fix the Enterprise and thought it was super anticlimactic but the we got Spock vs Khan and that was super fun.

Since Abrams probably isn’t coming back I like how they ended it, nice way of handing it off. Hopefully the Enterprise doesn’t get beat up too bad next time around.

Sure. Not military wears uniforms with rank displays and fights wars.

They can also, as they have, create fewer stories because the ships are too slow... or create mistakes such as when the ships suddenly go faster then they're supposed to but no worries, does not affect the story.

They're just a product of warp.

I thought the same for poor Chekhov. Glad I was wrong.
Great spin on a classic Trek story - really enjoyed it.
So, with one more movie to go before they blow it up, what's next for Trek? TV again? More movies with another new cast? A fourth movie perhaps with this cast?
