I think there's a line between racism-racism, which sounds like what you've been seeing on blogs maybe (people thinking these guys are just thinking "Hey, lets show these dumb spades how to run a country!") and misguided, patronizing racism ("Hey, lets help these poor, misguided, child-like negros and end their plight!").
These guys are the latter.

I mean, who doesn't want to be a hero? But, they're just clever and just aware enough to realize that they don't have the clout to do it, so they turn to well meaning but largely ill-informed 18-25 year olds to help fund their adventures off helping the noble savages of Africa.

that's what im saying. There are major issues over there, and we DO have the privilege of seeing these problems objectively. Maybe it is patronizing, but in a lot of ways, we are way better off than the Ugandans. Does it make us racist just because we can acknowledge that?

But, it sounds like he's out of reach of the Ugandan government and his militia is no longer the threat it was half a decade ago.

If the African Union or the ICC really wanted him by this point in his waning influence, they could probably get him, or get NATO or the EU to help bring him in.

Or just send a Tread Stone operative after him. We all know how these things work.

fair enough. I have no love for Invisible Children, but can putting a spotlight on a blighted nation be the worst thing ever? I feel like people are blowing this up out of proportion, especially with the race thing.

People are blowing Invisible Children and their attitude toward aide to the region up, and deservedly so. I mean, a LOT of people who have been working to bring light to Uganda have had a lot to say about this Kony 2012 thing, and none of it good, even though it brings attention to the area.

And the organization itself has been pretty flippant in its response to criticism, saying things like "Well, dismiss us all you want, but high schoolers now know more about this than adults, so there!".....great, and? They're building awareness for the sake of awareness, with no actual goals beyond seemingly getting more money to have more adventures in the area.

Completely agree.

I think a lot of this thread has been us being argumentative with each other because of shit people outside of this thread/site have said or have done/general boredom and a propensity to just jab each other rather than any actual disagreement with each other.

We should be more involved with what's happening in places like Uganda and we should be working to help people and we should be telling people who aren't actually there but still feel the need to say "stay out, white people!" to piss off.

While the cause is a good one my question is, why the fuck does he feel the need to exploit his kid? Where the fuck is that kids mother? Way to use your kid asshole.

Okay those posters of Kony aren't gonna do shit. Know why? Because you cant SEE HIS FUCKING FACE!!!!! It just looks like a generic black man.

I wanna support this cause but the people they showed working for them all looked like the typical hipster douche and I hate those people. That said lets stop sending "advisors" and just send in delta, The Activity, The Seals, or the CIA's SOG teams and let one of those groups take care of business.

But lets face it unless it involves oil or nukes we wont really do anything. He doesnt pose a particular threat to us so at most we'll just send advisors and watch what happens. Really though thats what we should do. We are too overextended as it is.

Dont people remember what happened the last time we went after one of these groups? It didnt end real well, although we did get a kick ass movie out of it.
