Cool J not only deserves all the respect in the Hip Hop World, he also rightfully deserves to be inducted into the "Hall of Fame".He is the founding father of Hip Hop in mainstream America. Before Him and Rick Rubin (2nd generation) hip hop was 5 minutes of rambling with no structure. L.L. along with Def Jam put the entire movement on his back and carried it to corperate America. He was the first major solo rap artist to become extremly successful. He produced hit after hit from classic battle raps to the love ballads for the ladies. Please understand this is the same blueprint that every modern hip hop artist does to gain success in a fickle rap world. Please Pay one of the Greatest Rappers of All Times his due's and induct him into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Not that you can say shit, but...
LL started out strong and showed a lot of promise with the minimalist beats of Rick Rubin. The thing is, after Radio, he parted ways with Rubin (who I see as less of a pioneer than Russell Simmons) and started making records like I Need Love. He went from a street rapper to a jacked up oily RnB buffoon. Every so often he'd try to come "hard" only to show his bitchmade diva personality (see: 4, 3, 2, 1). His album sales get more and more disappointing with each endeavour and his lack of improving skill has made him look like a joke. Oh and let's not forget the self-proclaimed title of "Greatest of All Time" that he failed to back up. Not even touching his movie "career". His influence, as you described, it has helped put the bitch in hip hop and if what you say is true then he's more responsible for bitchmade acts like Drake and Big Sean. If you want to talk about influences in the 80s on modern MCs, at least where it counts, you can add Rakim, KRS and Kane to the list but leave LL off. He doesn't deserve to be commended for a career that has steadily declined into lame territory.
