No, it wasn't. Comparing Detroit to an outhouse is an insult to outhouses everywhere.

You should see the pic Thunderstorm found in the Freudian Nightmare thread. You were the first person I thought of. :-D

I hate having to go to a specified comic section of the front page to get news. It took me forever to even find the Morrison interview.

Newsarama is like the paraplegic hooker whose jaw is wired shut. What the hell is she even good for anymore?

I went back and changed my RSS feed setting because I was tired of getting all the stupid film and game news.

DVH's apology

Postby outsider » Wed Jun 11, 2008 7:35 am

JL_Amato wrote:Can you link me?

I missed it.
Since the new Pluck system doesn't allow linking to pages, much less specific posts, here's a copy+paste from Page 4 of the 'Content Lacking' thread:
Deputy Van Halen wrote:OK, I looked around the thread for the OP of the most pithy response on this issue. Not sure what happened to it. Maybe it was moderated, maybe I just missed it on the second pass. So I am pasting from a post that quoted it:

Man, I'm loathe to do this... But you do realize one of the key differences between DVH and the normal denizen of Talk@ is that he, from what I can tell, is paid to be here and is officially representing Imaginova with however he chooses to carry himself here? I do believe you're setting the bar too low if you're only expecting him to act no worse than the rest of the posters. That's not making a statement on how he's responded thus far, just pointing out the inappropriate nature of the measuring stick you're choosing to use.

This person got it in one. I was out of line.

If I was just a poster, that would be one thing, but I was here telling you I was going to listen to you and maybe help. Sometimes I really am an ass. Excuses? No. Reasons? Yeah. It was hot, I was exhausted, I'd been in crunch week and was pretty much reacting to the extremely negative tone of some of the posts.

This doesn't mean your criticisms weren't valid and it certainly doesn't mean you aren't entitled to express them. And I can understand the negativity in those posts. A lot of you, like me, were angry, frustrated and not having your best day. And yes, I do know why. In think in both directions it wasn't what was said as much as how it was expressed.

So I extend to you all a sincere apology.

I will get back to reading your issues again. I took a short break from that to (a) not step in it again and (b) I was focused on logging, tracking and QAing bugs. Please keep contacting DH with any individual issues.

And no, Matt isn't here bending my pinky back as I type this.
What I really find funny is that a 'deputy moderator' had difficulty finding the original post by khuxford. Does anyone, even the moderators, know how to work that newfangled motherPlucker?

The guy just comes across as a bit of an ass, or at least someone who has no respect for the people who frequent the board. It's fairly plain that someone bent his pinky back (whether or not it was Brady is a moot point), which led to a rather empty apology.

Though Khux must be revelling in the fact that he was singled out as being right! :-D

In one of those threads (maybe that one) DVH was pontificating how other people with webmastering experience "got it" how Pluck was sooooo much better than vBulletin. I chimed in with a comment how it's one thing to choose a system for the behind-the-scenes operators, but what about a system that takes in mind the user's perspective?

Oh, nieto--how many posts do I need before I can change/customize the text below my avatar? I'm no "Snake on a Plane"!

They're changeable (by admins) but I need to OK it with Hawk: the worry is that too many custom user titles my overload the database. I'll get back to you...

Oh, don't worry about it then. I know that some sites have a minimum post count before you can access other features or customize your profile/display. If that's how it is, I'm cool with it.

As I say, they're on hold just now as we want to be as careful with the database as possible just now (we've had quite the influx this past week, after all...)
