That is definitely a HUGE issue here. If you don't want to see another origin tale, this isn't the movie for you. Also, its similarities to the Raimi Spidey makes it even more familiar.

I did enjoy seeing it on the big screen though. The action was really fun. Webb directed the action really well and it was awesome to see.

Sidenote: I saw this in 3D and with the exception of 2-3 shots, I don't see that it would be worth it. It was nice in 3D, but nothing of note.

Very nice movie.

Right now it stands at Spider-Man 2 > Amazing Spider-Man > Spider-Man > Spider-Man 3

I just came back from it. I enjoyed it enough. I wasn't sure about the look of the film, but I ended up liking all the shadows and contrast as the film went on. It was shot well enough, and nicely paced.

The chemistry between all of the actors was pretty effortless, and I liked that most of the action and drama was driven by the character of Peter Parker himself. The intrigue didn't overtake the plot (maybe there could have been more of it) and I liked some of the details of Spidey's motivation. It is definitely an origin tale, but nicely streamlined. It's a more emotional look at Spider-Man, and I think it worked pretty well.

went in without really knowing what to expect, but i came out pleasantly surprised. Garfield is a refreshing take on Peter, and the chemistry between all of the actors is fantastic. I think my favorite part was how Spidey looked and moved like the comic book Spidey. I always felt that Tobey and the Spidey costume looked a little bulky and restricting, and it showed. In this movie, Spiderman struck the classic poses, contortions, and really looked how Spiderman should look ( regardless of what you think of the costume) while he was swinging through the streets. Another thing i thought was cool was that Spidey didn't do the classic "swing from building to building". There simply arent enough tall buildings in a row for that to be possible, and i like how they resolved it at the climax.

Just got back from this and I loved it. Hated the Mirror's Edge trailer, hated the early pics of the costume, and the idea of a reboot with another origin story. No complaints, I absolutely loved it, can't wait for more. :D

Went last night to the midnight release and I really enjoyed it. Aside from lacking J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, I was happy that I was correct that the Amazing Spider-Man easily possessed the superior cast. Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man felt closer to the comics, Emma Stone was fantastic as Gwen Stacy, and Martin Sheen's Uncle Ben was fabulous.

If I had one complaint about the portrayal of any character, it would be the Lizard himself. Don't get me wrong, Rhys Ifans was fantastic as Dr. Curt Connors but the Lizard just didn't feel as threatening as he should. I wish they would have spent a little more time letting us know that there is a dramatic difference between the very human Connors and the ruthlessly reptilian Lizard. That being said, I can definitely forgive the cosmetic changes to the Lizard more than I can forgive the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers makeover that the Green Goblin received for Spider-Man.

Finally, I have to admit that I am positively stumped as to who the guy in the after credits scene with the imprisoned Connors is. My initial reaction was that it was obviously Norman Osborn...but if that were the case then why would he be able to just appear and disappear at will? Could he have been Mysterio? Somebody else? Does this mystery person have ties to the deaths of Peter's parents? I am absolutely stumped.

I liked the look of Lizard, a lot more than i thought i would. I didn't much like the promo pictures, or the toys, but he looks like a lizard rather than a dinosaur, which i think would have happened if they elongated his snout.

If we are talking about the look of the character, I admit that I did miss the snout but not quite as much as I missed the lab coat. I think that the Lizard would have looked a little more savage if he were to have had the tattered remains of Dr. Connors lab coat and pants draped over his body. I do see where some people have been drawing comparisons between the look of the Lizard and the look of the Goombas from the Super Mario Brothers movie though.

Absolutely agreed on the lack of the lab coat. I think it would have made for a much cooler look.

Ok - I'll be that guy.

In the discussion for best Spider-Man movie to date.

It is DEFINITELY better than 3, because it sucked. And it's better than 1, because 1 just does not hold up in any way with that ridiculous Power Ranger and the overacting Snidely Whiplash acting by Dafoe.

I will say that if this movie was a continuation of the previous franchise, Spider-Man 2 would be the clear winner.. but because the cast is so (SOOOO) much better (really, it's not even comparable) I'm going to say it's at least a tie.

I loved this. I really did.

The Lizard was so-so as a villain, but the character stuff and the action scenes were far superior to any other Spidey movie.

I want a sequel now just so they can do the Goblin/Gwen stuff.

The relationship was built up so well in this. It really puts the whole Tobey/Snaggletooth thing to shame in the Raimi movies. I mean, I already believed in it half an hour into the movie, and I was struggling with it through 3 films with Raimi.

Building off this and ending the second movie with the bridge scene would be brutal.

Mixed feelings, the cast was definitely better than the Raimi films and they had a lot more chemistry.......you got a sense that they were portraying people rather than caricatures roleplaying the characters.

But man, the Lizard came off as stupid as I feared. This is what I mostly feared from this movie and I was unfortunately spot on. And yeah, he was the spitting image of a Goomba from the Mario Bros movie

So despite building up a setting way more compelling than Raimi's, the payoff with the Lizard's master plan was just such a letdown.

Oh yeah, about the post-credits.....I have no idea who it's supposed to be, but the voice stood out a hell of a lot: Michael Massee who is basically a villain in every tv show I've seen him in. Hope he doesn't end up as Osborn though as he's WAY too old for the role
