Amoebas wrote:Last Wednesday they removed a loaf of bread sized tumor from my Dad. Complications arose as they also found a lump in a vein. But, 7 hours of surgery and 3.5 days in ICU later, he's doing the best he can and in all likelihood could be home for X-Mas.

That's the good news. The other side of the coin is in a pathology report I haven't seen yet. But for now, that's a worry for another day.

Thank to everyone for your posts and wishes. I don't even know if many of you 'virtual' people are real or not, but damn, if your support doesn't earn my gratitude.

Be well,
Jerry

I'm glad he made it through all of that.

April 14th - in front of 80 friends and family, my father stood tall and confident to thank everyone for attending his 75th birthday and that the medicos pronounced him free of cancer and that he had been dubbed 'Miracle Man" by all of his doctors. I left Michigan for home feeling great that my Dad had recovered so much so fast.

June 6th - he' s suddenly back in hospital with massive bleeding. A week later it's determined that he's filled with blood clots from his legs to his torso. To treat the bleeding will make the clots worse. To treat the clots can make the bleeding worse. Kobayasji Maru. His time goes from 'to be determined' to months - or weeks.

I went home a couple weekends ago to be with and tend to him (he wanted the end to happen at home). His conditioned worsened every day. Work forced me to come after a week so I bid him a gut wrenching 'good-bye'. It's only gotten worse since.

Last night was the last time he responded to my sister. This morning the death rattling began. By all accounts, despite the body continuing to go on, the person who was my father is now gone.

I'm once again off to Michigan in the morning.

And to you Outhousers who have or will pass on well wishes and support - we may all be virtual here in the Asylum, but my appreciation to you is very genuine.

Thank you.

Jerry (son of Stein)

Drive safe.

I know what it's like to look at a loved one and realize they're gone.

Think of the good times.
