bit of a broad generalization there. i've seen plenty of other writers portray a strong Jan, albeit some only in brief appearances:

Claremont (shocking, CC writing a strong woman)
Michelinie
Shooter to an extent
Englehart (in the WCA run)
Owsley/Priest (in a 2-part PPTSSM story)
Busiek

and several others

He was so pleased, he still refused to do any publicity for it! :P

What's he gonna do, though? Say it sucked? That he hated it? In the end, his wallet is still benefiting from the movie's success.. so of course, even if he doesn't go on the publicity circuit to promote it, he won't talk badly about it.

I saw lots of interviews with him leading up to the opening. I'm not suggesting he thinks it was on par with Citizen Kain but his whole "dislike" of the film was completely blown out of proportion by that stupid effing Nikki Finke.
