I haven't seen Naruto or Gundam but they'd have to be pretty damn good to beat Avatar.

That seems to be the consensus from a few cats that have watched the Avatar series. Some of them even refuse to watch Naruto to make the comparison. :smt102

I've seen a couple of Naruto episodes, but the main characters voice is annoying as fuck so I can't really stand it.

Gundam was ok at best. Cool looking mechs, but the stories were always pretty meh.

There is nothing bad I can say about the Air Bender. I haven't seen the new series yet (it is on my DVR), but if it's half as good as the first one, then it'll be hard to beat.

The Last Airbender vs. DBZ

Winner - DBZ. Why? Without DBZ and it's prequel, you'd never have the Last Airbender. The one is derived from the other.

The Last Airbender vs. Naruto

Winner - Naruto. Why? Again, without Naruto, you'd never have the Last Airbender. As with DBZ, Airbender took a great deal from it as well as other anime.

The Last Airbender vs. Gundam

Winner - Gundam. Why? If you're going to compare a fantasy to a sci-fi and at that a sci-fi franchise of it's level, Gundam wins. It's story is more relatable then Airbender. Also, Airbender is a derived series from numerous other sources, Gundam isn't. Airbender is one story, Gundam has many stories and not all of them are Wing nor seen on American television.

Final note - I've found that folks whom never have watched a good deal of anime or any anime at all, tend to like Last Airbender a lot. Thing is anime fans can like it, but no where near as much. The why is because they've seen that type of story and story telling in a ton of anime and even can recognize what's being derived/copied/homage-d in Last Airbender. Quest stories that are mixed with coming of age stories with a little bit of basic Shakespearean political opera are normal in anime.

None of them are crap, but folks are going to call it based on those factors I just pointed out.

There is no way anyone with any sense would like any of those pedimes over Avatar. Avatar ruled. Those others drool.

Those are the elements of any kind of epic storytelling, you see it in Harry Potter too. The difference is most anime is painful to watch. Maybe it's better if you're Japanese and it's not dubbed, but it's just silly and awful, in most cases, whenever I check it out, and DBZ and Naruto are some of the worst offenders.

Avatar is the best, a lot less filler, the humour is actually funny and it's better animated.

Yes they are, but they were not and not stated as being inspired by Harry Potter. That's part of the point here, Last Airbender came about from an enjoyment by it''s creators to make a similar show. They did. The style was something that again, LA took more from anime then not.

There is a hug difference between the dub stuff and the sub stuff and yes, it can be a little tougher to get into because of the voices and mannerisms are, to North Americans/Europeans, foreign. Kind of like trying a new food, it can take to get used to and really enjoy, if at all. Yes, there is so much anime out there, that most of it is crap. Just like with comics and tv and movies and etc. here. The good stuff does not always stand out obviously as the crap does. DBZ and Naruto are sort of like Punisher comics. They get churned out, have maybe the odd good story but otherwise are the same old same old and if you aren't into it, you won't like it much. Or you could say they're like wrestling, some folks don't get it nor like it. They see one thing only and not anything more, such as what can appeal to so many. I'm not a big fan of either show, hell I still refer to DBZ as Drag-On Ball ZZzzzzz. I can fans of Naruto "Narutards" as well. Why? Because both can be boring or very boring to me considering my tastes in general. I don't see the big appeal, but it's there for some.. whom can be obnoxious about their enjoyment. Also, there are worse then them. Stuff like One Piece. I don't really get it. :smt102

As I said, those shows listed are all good in their own way. But folks that call it for LA are not really hard anime fans. Anime fans, as I said, have seen stuff like LA before and lots of times. It's not a unique type or style of story for them.

That's about it for facts. Both DBZ and Naruto were stuffed with it.

Gundam and Naruto have had far better animated episodes. Dragonball... nope. But hey, compare an 80s show to one today and see how holds up.

Watched so many episodes of Naruto that I lost count, I really liked it at first but much like DBZ it took so damn long for the story to get anywhere I that got bored with it. Then you had all the constant filler episodes that were usually not nearly as good as main storyline so I just stopped watching, just like with Bleach.

I have never been into the big Mecha Robot shows so Gundam has zero appeal to me.

I think Avatar the Last Airbender is one of the best animated series of all time. The animation was always top notch, and the story was absolutely amazing. I am just now right at this very moment watching the first couple episodes of the new Avatar series and I am liking it very much thus far.

Yes, Avatar is inspired by anime. So what? The question was not, 'which of these properties is the most original?' The question was which is the best and the answer to the question is Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Without Natalie Portman's father's ballsack we wouldn't have Natalie Portman. But that doesn't mean that the ballsack of Natalie Portman's father is better than Natalie Portman.

The basest argument I've ever heard from PDH, but the most awesome.

Most "shonen" line-of-anime are pure crap for 14-years-old people.
Avatar is good, so perhaps you need to compare it to good anime.
To develop their conscience and consciousness, to make them aware of what is going on, to prepare the precarious ground for the future alternatives—this is our task: "our" not only as Marxists but as intellectuals, and that means all those who are still free and able to think by themselves and against indoctrination, communist as well as anticommunist.
