they replaced the 'black guy' with a seemingly schizophrenic Mexican

ElijahSnowFan wrote:Hi, all! I didn't know this thread existed, but now that I do, I hope to be a part of it! I had posted the bulk of this in a thread today in the News Stand forum, so I'll go back and read what you guys have been talking about, delete what is redundant, and leave the rest. Sound fair?

I've been very impressed with Young Justice -- of the almost 30 total episodes, only one or two have not really held my interest. Overall, I feel it's been extremely well done, well within the range of general excellence of Justice League/Justice League Unlimited...anybody else have any thoughts?

As for Season Two...wow. I have been loving the 5-Year Gap (Legion fans, it's what might have been back in the day. What DC Animated/Young Justice has done this season...It's an example of how you reset a franchise without tearing it to pieces, leaving it open to new readers/viewers while not alienating existing fans.)

Soooooo...if you know anything about me, you know I like lists. Lists are tremendous. It's how you keep order in a chaotic world. But here are some plot developments that have really caught my interest in Season Two (and for those who have interest, please feel free to mention what you have noticed that I might not have!):

1. Three episodes in, and still not a glimpse or mention of Kid Flash, Artemis and Red Arrow/Speedy...

2. ...which clearly ain't a good thing, considering that we hadn't seen Aqualad either. Maybe that's because five years later, he's Black Manta Jr.!   Apparently because Tula/Aquagirl is dead in all realities and mediums, print or television! :smt045 :smt045

3. Superboy isn't aging, or is aging so slowly that it bothered him enough to break up with Miss Martian...who is now dating Lagoon Boy, yet another example of A Character Who Can Be Cool if You Just Show Him in Action on Television. :smt045

4. Zatanna and Rocket have joined the Justice League, while Dick Grayson has assumed the role of Nightwing and Tim Drake the role of Robin...but Nightwing, Superboy and Miss Martian opted not to join the League, with Nightwing having taken over the role of "Young Justice Coordinator" from Batman. :smt045 :smt045 :smt045 Well played, DC Animated. Well played, indeed.

5. Captain Atom is clearly the leader of the Justice League. Good job, DC Animated. Damn good job. :smt045 :smt045 :smt045

6. Aquaman clearly hasn't learned that Little White Lies are still lies, considering that another reason Aqualad=Black Manta Jr. is that Aquaman neglected to tell Kaldur just who his daddy is!  Funny how something like that just doesn't come up in casual conversation! :smt073

7. You have to wonder if the mission that got Aquagirl killed is what led to the disgrace of Ocean Master and his exit from The Light, which is how Black Manta winds up being offered membership and would also be the reason that Aqualad=Black Manta Jr.

8. Can you tell yet that I'm absolutely shocked that Aqualad=Black Manta Jr.?!?!   He wasn't playing, and that wasn't mind control -- he was looking to drop the hammer on some superheroes!

9. It was a little anticlimatic what the missing Leaguers did for those 16 hours...but at the same time, you have to believe that there's a little more to it than "Rampage on Rimbor." How did The Light even know it existed, for instance? Did they really just send them there to scare beings from another part of the universe?

10. Finally: ADAM STRANGE. FTW. Yet another example of A Character Who Can Be Cool if You Just Show Him in Action on Television. :smt045

So, what'd I miss? Hey, did you hear that Aqualad=Black Manta Jr., five years later?!?!

:-D :-D

I think it's just Manta. :P

Speaking of Adam Strange, forgot to ask last week if any one else thought Alana's costume looked like Dr. Fate. At first I thought it was Zatanna. :smt102

Benderbrau wrote:The weak point however was that his motivation was based on the death of a character who was only seen briefly twice. That doesn't create much sympathy from the audience IMO. "Oh noez they killed a B-list background character. Oh the humanity!" Couldn't they have picked someone well known? Where the hell is Artemis? Why not kill her instead? That would have been a braver move by the writers and certainly more jaw dropping for long time viewers of the show.

He had a stronger connection with Aquagirl so it makes more sense. And the reason he went bad isn’t the point, the fact that he did is the shocking part.

That said, the line “blood is thinker than seawater” was a little ridiculous.

This show really hates superhero costumes for some reason.

He's not the hero of Rann yet so he wouldn't be wearing that. :smt102

It probably is undercover, simply because it would be completely against everything we know about this character and while we got some explanation as to why it happened, it's not sufficient. If Miss Martian were to turn, her being a double agent would be a cop out. In Kaldur's case the cop out would be him turning evil off what we know.

I hate when heroes go bad but I hope he really is.

I could see it though, with his dad joining the Light he'd be real close to finding their plans and such.

It's things like this and Miss Martian's darkier attitude, that lead me to believe that this time jump is still only temporary. It would be extremely interesting to get to the halfway point of this season, realize that the bad guys have won, and have one or two team members go to the past to prevent this future from happening.

If they do go back I'm curious to see who'll fix all this.

Aqualad finds out he's been lied to all his after the death of his love due to the negligence of the League. Makes sense to me. It's a cartoon.

Why? They find more excuses to not dress them in superhero outfits then any other superhero cartoon I've seen. :smt102

Because who cares? It's a superhero cartoon and it's not like they're going to make him the star of the show and explore his growth into the hero of Rand (Jack Burton'd ;) ) so how 'bout just giving the fans what they want? :smt102

My guess is that at some point it will be reveled that Black Manta was secretly the cause of Tula's death, which he did because he thought it would be a way to turn Aqualad to his side.

That doesn't make sense since Aqualad didn't accuse the team of killing her, only of letting her get killed. A charge they didn't deny.
