I think he'll be an excellent heel if they want him as one. His gimmick as the Straight Edge Superstar is perfect for being a preachy asshole heel that thinks he's better than everyone else. In a perfect world he'd feud with RVD and Punk would be the heel. I would love that.

Oh I totally agree those would all make excellent feuds/matches!!

That would have been great a few years ago, but RVD has really lost a few steps recently and became pretty stale in most all of his matches. Now that could have just been because of the match guidelines that were forced on him by the WWE, but I thought he was never as good as his original ECW days.

He's not as good as his ECW days, but he's still a good performer and I think a feud with Punk would be good for him. I also think that he was really burnt out at the end there, and that if he comes back he'd be recharged and would have one last great run in him.

Are we time warping to 06? RVD is not a wrestler anymore. He's an internet celebrity.

I was thinking back to more 1998, some of the matches that he had with Sabu, Jerry Lynn, and Tazz. Those were the highlights of his career in my opinion.

One thing: is anyone telling Punk to talk INTO THE MICROPHONE?? About 25% of what he says, he says with the mic at his hip.

I dont think it would. Just like him getting pinned by Punk didnt hurt his heel heat. They could have had any # of things happen like him taking out Cena with a Clothesline from Hell and then getting distracted by Cryme Tyme to have Batista get the spear.

And I'd rather have JBL then come in at the Bash and swerve everyone by having him pluck Punk into his stable.

BAM: Then you have Punk/JBL and any other hanger-ons they acquire (Runnels and Dibiase for instance) vs. Batista/Cena/Cryme Tyme

If you've never seen classic ECW you should go check it out. I'm sure you can rent some DVDs off of Netflix or you can find some for sale, but it's worth checking out. Look for stuff featuring Mike Awesome, Masato Tanaka, Jerry Lynn, Sabu, RVD, Tazz, and The Impact Players (Lance Storm and Justin Credible). There's some really really really great stuff out there.

rdrsfn82 wrote:I don't think they could have done that because they wanted the #1 contender match as the main event, but they wanted the show to end with Kane losing his mind. So if he had lost earlier in the show it wouldn't have worked out as well. Plus having Punk beat Snitsky was really all about just showing he can handle guys of Dave's size. That's two weeks in a row where he's picked up a big dude for the GTS. This way a Punk vs Kane feud is still possible for down the road

I dont think a Punk vs Kane feud is anywhere near marketable and they already had the opportunity when Kane was ECW champion.

And like I said, they didnt need Punk to face Snitsky to do so. He's already done it.

And the Kane losing his mind segment was pointless. That doesn't keep viewers tuned in during the overrun. They should have kept that at the 10:00 hour

I have seen plenty of ECW! I even attended a house show in '99. I am just not following your Punk/RVD booking as RVD doesn't work for any promotion in the world right now.

I didn't say that's the way I would have done it, I was just explaining what their thought process was. Personally I wouldn't have any of them near Punk except Dave, and I'd only have Dave there since he was so involved in Punk taking the belt and a win over him would make Punk look like a real champ. I'd then have either HBK or Jericho come for the belt and have a two or three month feud with one of those two, probably Jericho. Then I'd have Orton get involved and take the belt and have Punk start a heel turn leading into another summer run with the title in a feud with Cena next summer. In the mean time I'd have him feud with HBK and Kofi, who I'd also build up with a nice long IC title run.

I totally agree with you on that one. I think that Punk works better with guys more his style and size. He puts on decent matches with big guys but really shines when he goes at it with more mat based technical wrestlers. Seeing Punk against Edge, HBK, Jericho, or Orton would be much more entertaining to me.

I thought you meant you hadn't seen ECW which would be weird since you like so much of the indy stuff and seem to have been watching since you were a kid.

My bad. :-D

I would love to see Punk do a heel turn but not as a partner of JBL. I am all for the Million Dollar Nightmare join forces with JBL, that would be perfect for all involved. Punk would need to be a solo heel I think, or have a group that he puts together himself.
