Oh god yeah. Even the movies are utter shit. Not even muppets could save that crap.

I couldn't be assed to watch them tbh. Objectivism is a poor knockoff of Egoism that ignores self-interest for anyone but the bourgeoisie and inserts a heaping of moralizing. The Ego and It's Own is also more entertaining than any of her trash novels.

You should know better than that, Liam. As much as Capitalists hate socialism, they live for co-opting everything not nailed to the floor. Even with Rand herself (an unwanted immigrant whose one true love was married to somebody else) being so hungry for acceptance and stability as to fall into that bullshit herself, it doesn't undo the basic tenets. Hitler being a vegetarian doesn't make all vegetarians bad. Her heroine of Atlas Shrugged professed her desire to get rich, sure, but by story's end she found the wisdom in turning away from fame and fortune, finding a place with that reclusive lot where all they do is create stuff.

Ditko was never on about favoring one group's self-interests over another. And nobody anywhere has ever made the claim that his adherence to the ideology was faulty. Who would know better about the belief system, some flighty, dime a dozen celebrity or a guy who lived by it to the letter for 50+ years, to the extent of dying a pauper's death? Anyone today calling themselves an Objectivist is more than likely doing so because Capitalist is starting to become a bad word (and about fucking time). But that does not change what Objectivism is. Going by Ditko's interpretation, which again nobody on the planet has ever contested, Objectivism is against window dressing, against variant covers and against even the least jingoist commercialism. Because if A is A and a thing is itself, then a spade is a spade and it is what it is. No marketing or promotions warranted.

I think genuine Objectivists never go online because they see no logic in holding a proxy or avatar to mask themselves. I am NOT an Objectivist, but I do believe that living under even a weirdo ideology is better than none at all.

And a neat sidenote before I reengage my hermitage:

Stan Lee actually introduced Ditko to Rand's books. With that in mind, I read an old Mickey Spillane interview where he said that early in his career he ghosted several stories for Timely/Atlas. He named off a few other authors who did the same- they did coffee together at the time or whatever- and Rand was one of them. At that time she was in NYC trying to be a playwright but desperately taking whatever jobs a single immigrant woman could get. In the earliest years of comix, the creatives were predominately those women and minorities who could not land "proper" creative work. I talked to Jim Salicrup about this before, the possibility of her being an early writer for Marvel before it was Marvel, and he had heard it before but couldn't find anything concrete as must writers worked under pseudonym back then, always hoping to get a "proper" career going. I asked Sean Howe about it once too, the guy who wrote the big book on the history of the company, but it was news to him. He was off on a couple of other points though, so chalk me on the side of Stantheman briefly dating the young and starving Rand when they were both young and impressionable. Ditko may have known her in person as well, but being a real Objectivist, he wasn't one to brag.

Fuck, man, I even joined a site that's been attacked by NBC, McClatchy, Foreign Policy and the Daily Beast for being a Russian troll farm just to speed up the process, but no go. There really is no accounting for bad taste. :groucho:

Hard to believe DisneyCorp has so little faith in MarvelCorp's ability to create comics for kids & market them to kids that they're getting IDW to do it. I mean, it's not that hard to believe but it is pathetic. I do wonder how much that licensing is costing IDW & whether they have to pay up front.

Spider-Man, Avengers, and Black Panther comics for kids from IDW. That’s nuts. Kinda like way back when Big Hero Six went to another publisher. Wow.
