I made some Thai red curry tonight from a premade paste with shrimp and rice. It was pretty good, for coming from a box. I was obsessed with making Panang curry after having it in a restaurant earlier in the week, but frustratingly couldn't find any premade paste in the grocery store (they only had red curry, green curry, and peanut sauce), and they didn't have any of the required ingredients for any of it. Where the fuck do you get shit like that?

Dumb question: are the products in an Asian supermarket labeled in English?

I was an alternate until the last second, and I wasn't going to blatantly lie to try and get out of it. Besides, it was kind of neat to go through the process. I'd do it again.

Yes, more often than not.

South Asian/Indian supermarket will usually have it because all of their products are imported from South Asia where English is the primary language. East Asian/Chinese supermarket may not on rare occasion (most of them are made to import) but they'll have pictures, so if you know what you're looking for, you'll be able to find it. At the very least you can always ask someone what it is.

Most stuff here, the ingredients I think are pretty much required to be in both languages.

Panang curry paste should be pretty easy to find, I don't use it because it isn't vegetarian in most cases. I do keep red, green, and yellow in the fridge for curries in a hurry.

 "curry in a hurry"

Just got back from the park. They closed off the parking lot at the park across from my building. Hardly anyone there but it's filling up. Had a nice little stroll with the dog around where the river meets the lake.

Me and the dogs went to the quarry, didn't see any deer or snakes for a change. Trees fall down a lot there, which is interesting. More stuff to jump over all the time. I need to take the ol' machete next time to clear some thick, ropy vines that are pinned under a fallen tree and effectively blocking one of the trails.

We decided last weekend to keep it open all weekend but leave it titled the Saturday Thread so that we can all feel like we're getting away with something, as we should be able to on a Sunday.
