He's one of the best parts of the movie. Why shouldn't he? Plus it's a sly way to get people interested in the Clone Wars since..
Maul's showing up in the season finale in March.
I have a problem with Darth Maul, I dislike him a lot and I found him to be a very boring character.
Now do not get me wrong I know he has a huge fan base and I'm not one to criticize others if they like something just because I do not. (at least I try.) My issue with Maul was visually he was very cool, and choreographed with some great fights, but at the end of it all he was a paper thin thug. Hardly any dialog, or really any other semblance of what a Sith is, a thug is not my idea of the sith code.
Also he was on screen for what maybe 5 to 10 minutes at most, yet he was the best thing that came out of the movie? Sure when Star Wars came on Vader has about as much screen time but there was much more character developed into him in those few minutes that blows away any time Maul had on screen.
Maybe Clone Wars will give him some more justice than I thought he got in Episode 1. I'm watching the show with my son so I'll let you know.
