So Marvel's getting geared up with their second wave of female comic book titles consisting of She-Hulk, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Elektra. Will these fare any better than the first wave? Only X-Men remains out of the five titles released in the first wave. Captain Marvel, Red She-Hulk, Journey Into Mystery, and Fearless Defenders were all cancelled.

Black Widow #1 debuts with 53,879 copies sold. In comparison Fearless Defenders #1 started off with 53,688 in sales, and only lasted twelve issues.

Black Widow #2 sold 31,260 copies. After one issue the sales have already dropped 41.98%.

X-Men #9 is still holding up nicely at number 25 on the sales charts, with 49,412 copies sold.

Black Widow is a great series. It sucks to see that sales dropped off that badly from issue one to two.

I am in full agreement with you. The series has been terrific so far. I would hate to see it get cancelled after only 12 or so issues. Usually the drops between issues aren't that big when Marvel puts out two issues in one month.

February 2014 update.

Black Widow
#1 53,879
#2 31,260
#3 28,127 - Down 10.02% for the month

She-Hulk debuts with 41,894 in sales. Currently ranked number 36.

Ms. Marvel debuts with 50,286 in sales. Currently ranked number 24.

X-Men
#9 49,412
#10.NOW 52,486 - Sales go up 6.22%...
#11 47,498 - And back down 9.50%. Currently ranked 27th.

She-Hulk debuts in the range of where the last Captain Marvel series started. That series only lasted 17 issues before it was cancelled. Ms. Marvel #1 starts off better than I expected. Those numbers aren't that far off of Black Widows first issue. We will have to wait and see how big that second issue drop is going to be. Next month we will see how much the relaunch of Captain Marvel helps with it's sales.

Seems like that's the tendency with every title.

Some drops are worse than others though. When I look at those sites, I always hope that the sales drop for series that I really enjoy is as small as possible.

March 2014 update.

Black Widow
#3 28,127 - Down 10.02% for the month
#4 27,378 - Down only 2.7% for the month.

She-Hulk
#1 41,894
#2 26,675 - Down 36.3%. Things aren't looking that good.

Ms. Marvel
#1 50,286
#2 38,357 - Down 23.7%. The smallest 2nd issue drop of Marvel's second wave of female titles.

Captain Marvel #1 debuts with 44,248 in sales. Sales start off 6.39% stronger than her last series.

X-Men
#10.NOW 52,486 - Sales go up 6.22%...
#11 47,498 - And back down 9.50%.
#12 44,135 - Down 7.1%.

This second wave of female titles for Marvel seem to be doing better than the first wave. Captain Marvel debuts with higher sales than the last series, Black Widow seems to be stabilizing quickly, and Ms. Marvel has surprisingly decent sales. She-Hulk seems to be the worst performer of the bunch. I've really been enjoying all of them.
