Is it weird that I only just realised that FF is a majority-female title?

I think that's the best way to do diversity, to just write a book, not to draw attention to how it's some kind of feminist statement like Fearless Defenders or the upcoming Brian Wood X-Men

avengingtitan wrote:Actually most books starring females out right now suck. Wonder Woman is pretty good but only when compared to the rest of the NUDCU. When you compare it to past Wonder Woman books its terrible.

you need to be quiet and let the grownups talk now. Azzarello is writing what may be the best WW run of all time right now.

Ms Marvel has been pretty good. I was skeptikal at first due to the costume change and art, but both have grown on me and the story has been fun. Sue DeConnick has done a great job with her characterization.

The fact that Marvel hasn't gotten people to accept her as Captain Marvel may be part of their problem.

Zechs wrote:Marvel well.. the best female book they ever had was Spider-Girl. Even that was average. I was re-reading X-23. That was alright. The best written modern story was Lui's Black Widow. I think they should just do an ongoing with short stories. It's obvious the only way a female superhero at Marvel can hold a book is if it's a team one tragically.

while i was a big fan of Mayday and the MC2 universe, i cannot agree with the bolded statement. i just can't.

Claremont wriote a pretty good Ms. Marvel series in the 70s, the original Jessica Drew Spider-Woman was all kinds of weird fun, and i flat-out LOVED Slott's She-Hulk.

DC:
Donna Troy
Firebrand
Halo
Starfire (well, not so much anymore... :smt011 )
Zatanna
Babs Gordon (although i liked her better as Oracle)
Spoiler
WW
Liberty Belle
Black Canary

If you can overlook the current terrible artist, Captain Marvel has been pretty enjoyable.

Moreover, DC is well-known for its solo character books (Batman, Suoerman, Wonder Woman, Flash), whereas Marvel is well-known for packaging its characters in teams (Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four). Therefore, Marvel putting out solo books featuring its characters, male or female, is unorthodox.

Marvel fans have been "trained" to buy their characters in team books. It's why books featuring ANY solo X-Men other than Wolverine tend not to sell in the long run, even though they should arguably do well.

Good point here.

Not those big two.

DC:
Mary Marvel pre-Countdown and Final Crisis
Pretty much anyone that was in the old Birds of Prey series
Or the old Justice Society
Women in the JLI or JLE
Traci 13
Black Orchid
Members of the old Infinity Inc
Star Sapphire Miri
Female members of the GL before the nu52
Isis before she was killed

Marvel:
Spider-girl
American Dream
She Hulk
Ms Marvel
Songbird
Wasp

I don't know I haven't really read a lot of Marvel outside of the MU2 or kids books.

I just can't afford comics right now.
