A live-action drama adaptation special of four of Shigeru Mizuki's ghost stories will air on Fuji TV on August 31. The two-hour special, called Shigeru Mizuki no Gegege no Kaidan (Shigeru Mizuki's Gegege Ghost Stories), will feature a catgirl (played by Aoi Morikawa) and Mizuki's Medama Oyaji character (voiced by Bin Shimada) who will navigate and tie together the different stories.
The stories include:
• "Sunakake Babaa" (Sand-throwing Hag) is based off of the Sand-throwing Hag character found in Mizuki's GeGeGe no Kitarō manga, as well as in Japanese folklore. The live-action version is based on Mizuki's short story that features the character, which follows an ugly man (comedian Hiroki Konno) who visits the Sand-throwing Hag (LiliCo, pictured above) and is born again as a handsome man (Kento Hayashi). • "Yōkai Makuragaeshi" (Pillow-returning Creature) is based on Mizuki's short manga from 1969 about a makuragaeshi, a supernatural being that takes your pillow out from under your head and puts it under your feet. The live-action story follows an unselfish employee who is dragged into a company dispute and whose life completely changes after he meets the titular creature. Gaku Hamada and Reina Triendle will star. • "Fushichō o Kau Otoko" (The Man who Kept a Phoenix as a Pet) is based on a short manga from 1964. The story revolves around a mysterious birdcage that no one is allowed to look inside. Naoki Matayoshi will play a little-known mystery author, and Shirō Sano plays the author's house guest, who carries the bird cage. • "Einin no Tsubo" is based on a short story from 1961 about a mother (Kana Kurashina) who goes looking for a jar that will cure her dying son's illness.

By Keith Justice | September 6, 2013 This is the real deal folks. Kamen Rider and other tokusatsu programming is headed to the U.S. OFFICIALLY. Toei Japan Channel, a new internet streaming pay channel coming this month, is originally a dedicated offering for the US’s four hundred thousand Japanese residents, but in about a year’s time will begin airing programs with English subtitles in about a year from now.
From Yasuhiko Nakashima of Toei’s International Sales Division:
“Because of the current interest in ‘Cool Japan’ we saw an opportunity to show off our tokusatsu hero shows. In the future we’d like even provide the series almost as they air in Japan.”
Aside from rumors of an animal themed Super Sentai show, another rumor for a 38th Super Sentai has surfaced online, which is accompanied with a rumored cast picture! Take these rumors with a grain of salt.
The name of the Super Sentai team is Senkan Sentai Gounova, which translates as Battleship Squad Gounova. The team is composed of Ryo Sakaguchi as Red, Mayu Tomita as Pink, Taito Hashimoto (Kamen Rider OOO's Kazari) as Black, Tomoyuki Ishida as Blue, and Sano Kazuma as Green.
The stage press conference for Shougeki Gouraigan happened just recently, which revealed the five heroes of the show and what fans should expect abou this show.
In the series, a world called Choushinkai is populated by a race of super beings called Hikaribito and under this race is a sect of criminals called Kagebito. There is also a race of evil creatures called Magi who exist in both our world and in Choushinkai. The only ones who can see these creatures in our world are those humans with powerful spiritual sense and one of those who can see them is Hitomi Kai whose life will change after seeing her first Magi.
After capturing some of the Kagebito, one of the Hikaribito generals named Gou is attacked by a Magi on his ship, the Punba. After he crash lands on our planet, he receives a message from his home world that within 100 days, an army of thousands from his world will attack the Earth. Now stuck in this strange planet, he teams up with Hitomi to gather the escaped Kagebito and fight the new threat alongside them!
These are the five warriors that make up the Hikaribito Army, composed of only one actual Hikaribito warrior. The names of the characters also compose the name of the series, Sho, Geki, Gou, Rai, and Gan.
