Former CEO Reportedly Hoping to Reboot Toys R Us

Former Toys R Us CEO Jerry Storch has reportedly been meeting with potential investors to reboot the famous retail chain.

According to Bloomberg, Storch has been seeking out various investment groups in order to secure funding for a potential reboot of Toys R Us. This includes Fairfax Financial Holdings, which previously absorbed the Canadian branches of Toys R Us.

The Hasbro Star Wars reveals at Comic-Con were dull this year. Star Wars isn't in a good place right now due to the divisive and poorly constructed The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story was a downright disaster for Disney. So moving forward, hopefully the new season of Star Wars The Clone Wars will revive some much needed enthusiasm for the franchise.

Star Wars once the No.1 toy brand in the world has dropped from its perch atop the charts and is now third. Now the drop might not sound so horrible but when you factor in the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars (just from The Last Jedi and SOLO at the box office) in addition to millions of dollars more from the lack of demand for Star Wars merchandise and the continuing anger among the once loyal die-hard fanbase who would buy anything with a Star Wars logo on it, it is an ongoing problem for Disney.

Star Wars. Like many I love the original trilogy. The original prequels - not so much because the characterization was pretty weak and drowned in a sea of FX. Then Disney made The Force Awakens and fans breathed a sigh of relief. The franchise was in good hands but in retrospect, maybe that movie should have been titled The Force Darkens because in so many ways, the movie was just a nostalgic trip for fans and a retread of previous movies.

Anyway, I was at a toy store yesterday and looking at the Star Wars merchandise I couldnt help but notice much of it has been marked down by stores hoping fans (who have cooled tremendously on the brand) will be tempted to purchase it. There was the novel for SOLO but why buy a novel for a movie that was so disappointing? There was also some horrible looking Leia and Luke action figures for The Last Jedi selling for just three bucks but god, it looked like their faces had melted during production. As for the much touted The Vintage Collection, well there is more disappointment on that front because despite saying they had made changes, Hasbro is still using tape to seal the bubble (housing the figure) onto the card. Worse still, some of the bubbles are already peeling away while still in stores. But then most of the figures released so far are not so great either. Do fans really need another SOLO figure with Alden? Or another Luke figure from The Last Jedi? Yes you get a brand new backing card with artwork and nice graphics which is the only saving grace so far but paying top price for it? Forget it.

Now there are some cool things new in stores - like Batman. Yes, brand new Batman action figures - both in 6 and 12-inch scale. There is not just Batman (in two different costumes) but Batgirl, Robin (in a costume inspired by Tim Drake) and The Joker. Those four characters are available in 12-inch scale but you can get other characters in the smaller 6-inch scale. They also feature enhanced articulation - which is fantastic news for fans.
