PSA: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron demo out now

The Transformers: Fall of Cybertron demo is available now on Xbox Live and will be out later today on PSN when the store updates. The demo features both single and multiplayer modes of cybernetic warfare. The single-player mode, sadly, does not let you try out Dinobot Grimlock, instead placing youin the role of Bumblebee, along with the Decepticon Vortex.

The multiplayer portion features Team Deathmatch and Conquest modes, along with the option to try out the game's character customizer.

ngmoco Reveals Transformers Card Battler

Mobile game studio ngmoco has lifted the lid on Transformers Mobile, a new card battler due out for iOS and Android later this fall. The new title follows the success of ngmoco parent company DeNA’s original smash-hit card battler Rage of Bahamut, which at one point occupied both the iOS and Android top game slots.

For now Transformers Mobile gameplay details are scarce, but it seems likely that the title will build on Rage of Bahamut’s core gameplay mechanics, including a strong quest system, card upgrading and frequent live events. The game will be powered by DeNA’s Mobage mobile social game platform.

I prefer gameplay over graphics any day but the Fall of Cybertron demo's graphics....I dunno. The blur filter seems to be on overdrive. Resolution seemed fairly low and aliasing was very noticeable. Which was kinda funny as the character designs managed to look a fair bit more advanced than in WFC.

Also, sound mixing seemed horribly botched. A lot of the dialog in the demo really low volume and I even knocked down the music to 50% and it still remained extremely muted. Any dialog that wasn't on my character comm was like it was spoken a mile far away and I strained to hear it.

The Vortex level was the highlight due to the freedom afforded. Gameplay is a lot faster, combat more fluid. Brilliant.

But....multiplayer mode seems neutered and stepped backwards. High Moon is asking for fan feedback on it which is kinda funny. Right here:

Managed to google a full list of the changes:
-You used to have to select from two abilities (a dash, spinning melee attack, aoe life leech, etc). Now you can only choose one, and there are fewer to select from.
-Grenades. (though scout/infiltrator gets an emp grenade ability)
-Vehicle forms used to have their own abilities. Planes could roll, tanks could 180 quickly, trucks could ram. They're gone. (I think. I swear i've seen people barrel roll and destroyers at least look like they're ramming all the time. Need to check to see if you can actually damage people.)
-Killstreak rewards. The first game had COD:MW style killstreaks, with each class having a unique set, but FOC does not.
-COD style upgrade perks.

Though everyone keeps talking like they haven't added anything.

+Weapons and abilities now have an upgrade slot. Kind of like MW3, but many do a lot more than just the slight effects that game had. Honestly, these do much the same things perks used to do, but now you can't buff a single ability really high.
+Many weapons now have a secondary effect (weakens armor, marks target, leeches life, makes enemies explode on death) to help make up for only having one ability
+Everyone now has dash and sprint, greatly increasing mobility while a robot. Makes the vehicle form slightly less useful, IMO.
+There are now powerups scattered throughout the level, which can be used to regen health, quicken ability cooldown, buff damage,etc.

Oh yeah and with multiplayer...Scientist class got massively boosted.

Stack a full team of scientists. The Heal Beam is ridiculously fast now....when organised properly they'll be a nightmare to neutralize.
