Top 5 movies - 2007

Postby L Independant » Tue Dec 25, 2007 8:45 pm

Rank 'em. Film shorts count, too.

1. Bella
2. Ratatouille
3. Darjeeling Limited
4. Hotel Chevalier
5. This spot is being held out because there is a short list of movies I still haven't seen, namely "The Lives of Others," "Juno," and "Sweeney Todd..."

Worst movies:

5 (tie). Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: I had no idea what went on, and I read the book.
5 (tie). Stardust: It's only redeeming quality is having Robert de Niro play a gay pirate.
4. Into the Wild: It's one long Eddie Vedder music video
3. Once: great buzz, alright story, but clearly just an effort to make an album sell.
2. Reign Over Me. Sappy, pointless and meandering.

And the bottom of the list, in case anybody forgot: About a Son. Horrid.

1. Knocked Up
2. Superbad
3. I Am Legend
4. Bee Movie/Fred Claus
5. Transformers

* Note - I haven't seen Juno or Charlie Wilson's War yet. No doubt both of them will take the 3/4/5 spots.

1. Pirates: At Worlds End (okay, probably a mediocre movie by everyone's standards, but I loved it. It was fun, fun, fun... and had Johnny Depp.

2. I Am Legend: Will Smith can do no wrong! When he wants to, he can shine like some of the greatest actors ever!

3. Hairspray: LOVED IT! Don't know why, maybe its the gay gene talking, lol, but this movie had me smiling a mile wide when I walked out of the theater, and did the same for my kids as well. AND, it gave them a glimpse of the social status of African American's at that time.

4. Zodiac: Yes, I changed this from Harry Potter. Why? Because Zodiac was a great movie with a powerful ensamble and a story that is pulled from the headlines, and it's non ending actually give you goosebumps.

5. Blood Diamond: I actually think this came out at the end of last year, but I didn't see it until this year, so it counts for me.

I didn't see many, but I can say that Stardust was my favourite film this year.

Um, Stardust, Blades of Glory Lives of Others, and I think Bourne Ultimatum were some of the only new films I saw this year. The other one is the better one though, Hot Fuzz. I spent most of this year seeing old films and enjoying them. Oh snap, Superbad was great too.

Damn! I forgot about Bourne Ultimatum. That was a great movie. I still haven't seen Death Proof or Ghost Rider yet.

I watched Hairspray on the flight to San Fran., and it looked like a lot of fun. That would probably be my #1 had I been able to hear it.

But, since I didn't:

1: Pirates: At World's End
2: Transformers

Well, since we don't actually see many films, I'll stop there. I didn't really think Spider Man 3 was good enough to make a Top 5 list, and Fantastic Four was just bad bad bad. Ditto Harry Potter. I haven't read that book yet, but it just seemed bad. Like Spider Man 3, it had some great moments, but overall it was lacking.

Well I only saw Transformers, Spider-Man 3, Ghost Rider... and something else I'm sure. None of those were the best anything though.

American Gangster is probably the best thing I saw this year. Denzel Washington and Russell Crow were both outstanding.
