I believe that one of those picks turned out to be Emmitt Smith.

Yup. I don't like analyzing who was drafted after because it's not like the team that traded the pick was necessarily going to draft the same guy.

It's like the draft pick that was traded for Eli Manning turned out to be Shawn Merriman.

Some of the wost I know of.

Cubs trade Lou Brock, Jack Spring and Paul Toth to St. Louis for Ernie Broglio, Bobby Shantz, and Doug Clemens.

St. Louis Blues trade Doug Gilmour(and a couple others) to Calgary for Mike Bullard, Craig Coxe and Tim Cokery.

Calgary trades Brett Hull to St. Louis for Rob Ramage and Rick Wamsley.

St. Louis sends Dan Heren to Oakland for Mark Mulder

LA sends Pedro Martinez for Mtl's Delino Deshields.
