I'm disappointed in you, Hab. Trying the saying something other than what I said deal is someone else's game, not to mention the old ignore the facts bit.
I never called Martin a murderer. I said he was TRYING to do that. Since he didn't succeed, he was merely someone committing an assault, which is backed up not only by Zimmerman's account and the physical evidence, but also apparently by the account of that eyewitness I mentioned, evidently the only other person to actually see what was going on.
As for the detective---I don't get what you're on about---the guy admitted he had no reason to want to arrest Zimmerman! What more do you need? Guy admitted he had nothing at all to back up his desire to arrest Zimmerman, (again, raising the question of why he wanted to in the first place).
And of course the principle is that people like you and Bender, and thousands of others, have tried and convicted Zimmerman on the basis of....you don't like him. Not that he's guilty of anything, the only evidence in the case all points his way, as both your homicide guy and the lead state investigator admitted, one under oath. They admit they have no reason to arrest Zimmerman, and no reason to doubt his account of the case, backed by testimony not only from him, but from the only other guy to see it, and by the physical evidence. A guy the media was out to get from the start, first by posting pictures of the 13 year old Martin along with a mug shot of a fat Zimmerman, then by outright lying with things like audio tapes and descriptions of the evidence---all fueled by the Martin family's demand for revenge, and sundry demagogues like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
I imagine that with different dead body shot by a different person, you'd be arguing for restraint and respecting the legal system, rather than approving of the mockery being made of it in this case.
Basically, you guys don't seem to care about the facts of the case now that they've been presented, and now that they don't favor the Martin family version. You guys, like the family, just want revenge against Zimmerman. And seem to be as heavily invested in it as I am in the idea of actual justice being done, rather than revenge.
You're not really interested in justice being done as much as you are exonerating Zimmerman and thus proving wrong the "other guys."
Zimmerman caused this by being a douchebag who wants to be a cop so bad he drives around with a gun looking for suspicious people and being a one-man neighborhood watch. He's like a step below a mall security guard. He doesn't even get paid for this. He's just that much of a douche.
Martin probably caused his own death by getting into a violent conflict with a dude like this. He may even have allowed Zimmerman to get off free for it if he was attacking him (as it seems like he was) and therefore Zimmerman can claim self defense. That's the law - sure - I'm not arguing that with you.
But is it really self defense if you started the whole shit? Not really, IMO. The law may say so, but it's stupid. Don't follow people around and act like you're fucking Batman, dickface. Especially if you're gonna then proceed to get your ass kicked by the dude you're following so badly that your only recourse to avoid death is to shoot and kill the guy.
A guy who was doing nothing wrong before Zimmerman started stalking him. He may have began the violence after that point, I guess no one will ever really know how it went down, but it sure is a fact that Zimmerman was fucking creeping on him, which is a much more "suspicious" move than walking home. If I saw someone stalking me, who knows how I'd react. Might I think that my life was in danger and I had better strike first? Might I run? Who the fuck knows?
So it's just a fucked situation in general, and the law may say Zimmerman gets off here (but then, the law in some places says it's illegal for your wife to give you a blow job, or to buy alcohol on a Sunday, or for two men to get married), but as far as actual justice, not bullshit legal "justice," Zimmerman is as much if not more at fault for the fucked situation.
Does he deserve a murder conviction? I dunno.
Whether anyone got shot in this scenario or not, IMO, for being a fucking douchebag who follows people around like a fat mexican guardian angel, he deserves to die because the world would benefit from having less stupid douchebags in it. Can you address that point?
Please avoid reframing the argument to be about the legal technicalities of self defense. I have no opinion on that, so addressingthat to me is meaningless. I just think Zimmerman is a douche and also created this problem.
