I used to like Mint. I'm actually surprised Achilles does with Mint's offputtingly loud liberal views. They once put out a message telling people not to use their operating system if they support the country of Israel.

In any case, I preferred Mint until Unity came out for Ubuntu, I think Unity is just superior. And besides, Mint is just a tweaked version of Ubuntu, might as well use the original.

Actually, I've never tried Mint. I use Ubuntu myself. I'm just Mint-curious... :-D

Well, if you fully followed that logic, then you'll never use that Macbook again given Apple's run off to China and not hiring American or Canadian folk to build their stuff. They're commie supporters. I try not to let the political BS get in the way of using good wares. :smt102

I used to play around with both Ubuntu and Mint. I found I preferred Mint as it had most of the wares and tweaks already in that I wanted. Also, I hate that MAC interface. Saw too many years as a user and having worked at Apple. Just a preference. I haven't touched it in years so how Mint is holding up compared to Ubuntu is something I'm not as up on. In the end, it's of course, what are you using it for and how savy are you as the user. The GUI is easily messed with if wanted.

Run it live. It's just Ubuntu repackaged with certain wares and with certain graphics. A little more Windows like... unless you think of Win8 and then... well if you are just scream and run for the hills like I do when I spot that crap OS. :-D

Mint! The Linux distro brought to you by drunken Irish liberals, instead of the afro-centric liberals whom give us Ubuntu. :P

No, I mean the creators of Mint actually make a purposeful effort to express their liberal beliefs and have specifically asked people who don't agree with them not to use their OS.

Okay finally everything is backed up. I have the Ubuntu disc in my hand. Should I wipe the drive first or no? I read in one of the guides that it was not necessary, but want to be sure.

The Ubiquity Installer will give you some options as you run through. If you've already backed up your shizz, just choose the 'Use Entire Disk' option... It will wipe all shizz, reformat, install, download updates, codecs, and prompt you to restart.

Dependin on your haddweah, this will take anywhere from 15 minutes to about 40 total.

Pro Tipz -

Check the boxes which allow the installation of the Fluendo Codecs, and update downloading. This will help when you want to play your tunes.

Don't fekk with the system or really do anything until you've installed the downloaded updates & restarted. The system will be noticably faster when you use it if you do this. First impressions be impotent.

If the system prompts you to use an 'Additional Driver' ALWAYS try the recommended one FIRST.

If, for some reason, your install fails (this is RARE), re-burn the disc at the LOWEST possible burn rate AND validate your MD5, son.
This should ensure a smooth install experience.

Post - install, pop a terminal open and enter 'sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get autoclean' the systyem will ask for PW, and then CLEAN ITSELF!!!!

Oh, then input 'sudo apt-get clean'. This will finish it.

Linux is beautiful. I have an erection.

When you get it up and running, I recommend trying out Guayadeque for your music player. There are a lot of great music players for Ubuntu - Banshee, Rhythmbox, Amarok, and Clementine are the most popular - but Guayadeque is the most functional, IMHO. I've spent months switching back and forth between them until I settled on it.

I totally see what you mean!! When I opened up a pic and right clicked on it, the damn thing actually had the gall to ask me if I wanted to set it as my desktop background. Then when I clicked it, IT WENT AND DID IT FOR ME!!

WTF is up with that shit!!!

Okay everything was fine, but now I got no sound coming out of my speakers, I get sound out of my headphones though. That's not a driver issue is it, more of a speaker thing right?
