C20Percent wrote:The fist issue was "meh," but the last three have been stellar. Yost and Kyle are really exploring Rahne and X-23, and this is where the Purifiers story continues. Also, Yost and Kyle and supposed to pick up on the Wither/Black Queen plot, and it looks like they're gonna try to flesh out the Warpath/Hepzibah situation. X-Force has the quality of New X-Men with a slightly better cast -- the art is a little dark, but it's grown on me, but I don't think Crain will be on for that long.

After people telling me to pick up New X-Me with Yost and Kyle, I finally picked up a couple trades. And they're not bad, really. I kind of look at them, as well as Kirkman, as the first writers at Marvel who draw from the 90's as inspiration. X-Force makes perfect sense to me.

So, for those who feel that X-Force feels like an "X-book", I kind of get what you're saying.

A lot of shit actually happened in New X-Men. And I grew to really like those characters, despite the occasional groan worthy dialogue.

I'm going to pick up the X-Force trade. I imagine it's full of action, death, and bits of 90's continuity. And if it's like New X-Men, it's solid. Not great, but solid, and for an X-book, that seems to be enough.

DaReekstah wrote:I never got the hate for Land. And to compare him to Liefeld is extremely harsh, IMO. Land at least has a grasp on anatomy and CAN draw, as evidenced by his DC stuff.

I could care less if he traces. I think it looks cool.

What can I say? I like an artist who can tell a story. Look how many characters are doing the Triple H on that cover? And what is with Pixie's face?!?

I actually think at least Liefeld had an engery to his art. Land has nothing. And his storytelling abilities are just bland, weak, and at times, particularly when he has to convey emotion on a character's face, it is just WRONG. Takes you out of the story completely.

He's the epitome of a hack.

DaReekstah wrote:WTF? I just noticed something about that cover..

Why does Cyclops have a jetpack? And there's someone above him flying with a jetpack as well.. looks like.. Sunspot?

Probably because whoever he traces it from was wearing a jetpack?

And Lands art is not that great, I can live without seeing another comicbook woman flying through the air with her mouth wide open in a porn moan or characters with outstretched weird looking arms. It's sad that he traces and it still doesn't look that good.

I think it's more like the 80's stuff, myself. Look at the enemies they use, Nimrod, Stryker, Belasco, Selene(although that was more of a tease), all from the 80's. I loved the book, though. I really liked that the team felt like it grew together, and was forged, quite literally, in the heat of battle. They had to kick ass or die. When they finally managed to put away Nimrod(with some help) they finally turned the corner and were on their way towards better things. I understand that sales were bad and the book had to end, but I really think it was just starting to hit its stride.

Michael Turner needs to stay away from mainstream work.

You know, that's not even close to his worst work. That's actually pretty good in context.

Aside from the fact that is has Gambit on it I think it's a decent cover. I like the throwback uni's & characters.

Why the hell is Cyclops wearing that costume?! His current one is his best ever.

Is Banshee alive?

Why is Angel not Arcangel?
