I don't want to be negative but I have nothing positive to say about the first the episode.
I'm told that the show "grows a beard" during season 2 so I'm going to try and stick with it.
Okay one negative thing, Xander is the worst he's a terribly written character and that actor is horrible. It saddens me that he doesn't die in episode 2 (I know he's still around in the comic)
As mentioned, the show
does Grow The Beard
in Season 2, with the emergence of Spike, Drusilla, and Angelus
. Even Xander grows in importance and interest in episodes like Season 2's "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", and Season 3's "The Zeppo" (both recommended, by the way).
The series has also made a HUGE footprint at TV Tropes, being the Trope Namer
or Trope Maker
(or even former Trope Namer; see "Spikeification
") for many an entry. The show's page even says that "Buffy
the origin of TV Tropes." Whether you think that's a good thing or not is strictly up to you.
