Nightfly lists his preferred picks from primetime TV and the world of entertainment.
TV Week in Review (week of 4/15/12)
FOX, The CW and HBO all performed strongly last week earning wins and multiple places on my Top 7 lists. FOX's Touch tops my one-hour list for a third consecutive week, ratings darling iCarly unseated How to Rock after its three week Favorite Teen Show reign, and, my no.1 half-hour slot got snagged by the season finale of Raising Hope and the [probable] series finale of Eastbound & Down. No net slotted more than once on my Top 7 Reality Shows list; a different network tops that particular list for a fifth week in a row.
Now onto my preferred primetime picks from last week... * Warning: videos below may contain spoilers and/or mature content not suitable for all ages *
12. In Plain Sight - "The Medal of Mary" (USA) 11. True Justice - "Dark Vengeance, Pt.1" (Reelz) 10. Fairly Legal - "What They Seem" (USA) (9). Smash - "The Movie Star" (NBC) (8). GCB - "Pride Comes Before a Fall" (ABC)
7. Lost Girl - "Something Wicked This Fae Comes" (Syfy)
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Guest Stars of the Week: [tie] Jim Beaver on Supernatural (CW) Vanessa Marano on Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
Remainder of my Top 12 Favorite guest stars from last week: Uma Thurman on Smash (NBC) Jamie Luner on Supernatural (CW) Stephen Lang on In Plain Sight (USA) Adam Baldwin on Castle (ABC) Matthew Perry on The Good Wife (CBS) Kathryn Hahn on Parks and Recreation (NBC) Annalise Basso on New Girl (FOX) Mark Margolis on Fairly Legal (USA) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Fave *New* Music Video of the Week: "The Rifle's Spiral" by The Shins
(12). 30 Rock - "Murphy Brown Lied to Us" (NBC) (11). Hot in Cleveland - "Cruel Shoes" (TVLD) (10). Modern Family - "The Last Walt" (ABC) (9). BFF - "Put a Pin in It" (NBC) 8. 2 Broke Girls - "And the Messy Purse Smackdown" (CBS)
On my quest to screen 'n sample as many different shows as possible, I increased my total hours viewed compared to the week before last by a couple hours, topping off at fifty-two and a half. Twenty-seven hours were spent watching hour-long fare, ten and a half went to half-hour comedies (including the impressive premiere of Girls) and fifteen interesting hours were dedicated to reality TV. The only show I accidentally missed was Stacey David's Gearz on the SPEED Channel.
Two fresh TV clips I found intriguing and entertaining last week were for Parks and Recreation and Syfy's new series Total Blackout. P&R posted this Gag Reel full of hilarious bloopers and pranks to promote its Season Three DVD.
HBO Films has produced yet another award-worthy effort in their latest stunning epic Hemingway & Gellhorn (Starring Clive Owen & Nicole Kidman). Watch the film's most recent trailer (below) and catch its primetime HBO premiere May 28th.
It's occured to me that I mostly feature big-budgeted (would-be) blockbusters in my column's (unofficial) movie section, so this time I'm spotlighting a couple low budget pics' clips instead. The first is from Music Box Films who brought The Artist to America, now presenting an English subtitled version of 2004's Japanese film Quill: The Life Of A Guide Dog. See its engaging trailer (below) and read about it here. Quill premieres in the U.S. this summer.
Eight new one-sheets streeted last week for G.I. Joe Retaliation, one for each of its major characters. See all eight here and behold the two posters below featuring Elodie Yung (as Jinx) and Adrianne Palicki (as Lady Jaye). * See the latest international poster here.
Thanks for checking out my column(s), I hope you found something to your liking. I gotta say I was pleased to finally get Reelz from my cable provider this past week, I no longer have to miss Steven Seagal's ballsy, action-packed True Justice. And for those wondering about my love of Touch... well, I'll confess it's emotionally moved me each and every airing (not that easy to do, especially when I'm expecting it). I'll be publishing an interview with Total Blackout host Jaleel White Wednesday at TV Over Mind, check it out if you're inclined. As always, Have a Great Week & Happy Viewing!

Sorry I only just saw this now, ThirtyFiveMinutesAgo. You've been tardily awarded your 7th Trivia Medal for your correct answer [last week] of Goodfellas.

No, I've never caught an episode. Are you a fan? I've only heard the title, I don't believe I've ever even seen a commercial for it. I'll look into it.

its fucking awful. All they do is take bits from radio shows and do them. The first two or three episodes were almost all things that were done a lot better on Lex and Terry. They dont even try and make it their own.
