Still focusing on Fitzgerald. It's an on-and-off thing though.

Finished This Side of Paradise some time ago. Read the Great Gatsby last week. Really great read. Doesn't hold a candle to Tender is the Night. Now I'm working my way through the Beautiful and the Damned. I'm really hating it. He rambles a lot in this one. After this, the Last Tycoon and his short stories will be read and I'll finish it off with a re-read of Tender.

Will probably take me til the end of the year because I'm so slow these days.

Right now, I'm reading a lot of indie stuff trying to help promote fellow authors, but the book I always have handy is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's one of my favorites and while it was considered wildly experimental at the time, there's never (in my opinion) been a better unreliable narrator than Dr. Gonzo. Hunter Thompson is one of my author models and while his early writing would never get picked up in today's market, back in his day, he was the man for his time and place, to quote the Cowboy from the Big Lebowski.

Long live Dr. Gonzo! (at least in the literary sense)

Jim

He's an excellent novelist.

The City & The City is amazing. His best one.

Help on a book title?

I was in the bookstore tonight and I saw a book with H.G. Wells as the main character, who has to go and make sure his books like The Time Machine aren't erased from history.

Nevermind. I think I've got it. Think it's "The Map of Time" but "Here, There Be Dragons" sounds interesting, too. Anyone read either of those?

This was very very nerdy and the references propped up a pretty clichéd plot, but I enjoyed it for what it was and Wargames references are always fun.

I absolutely loved that book for what it was. Finally reading this:

It's very good. The comics connection obviously makes this book all the better but it really isn't about comics (or hasn't been so far). I'm interested to see where this book goes.

Starting Here, There Be Dragons first, as more folks seemed to like it...

Just finished this. It's not the type of book I'd normally read, absent the comics connection. But it was a lovely and bittersweet story. I felt a real connection and fondness for all of the main characters in the book, and that is an obvious mark of a very well written story. The ending was just right too. Great stuff.
