What do you guys think about this bullying "epidemic"?

Postby Rockman » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:44 pm

I've seen the media all over this topic over the last few months. They tend to focus on bullied gay teens, but they often talk about bullied teens in general and how they are driven to suicide.

The one thing I don't understand is why they act like this is something new? Bullies have always existed. I really don't see how you can stop it at all. You can amp up the consequences for students who are caught bullying, but that still wouldn't stop it I think.

It seems like this is definitly the "cause" of the moment for people though. I'm all for it, but the bandwagon effect is always annoying, no matter how good the cause might be.

The difference IMO is that previously your home was a safe haven from bullying. But now, thanks to text, e-mail, Facebook, etc it follows you into the home. End result? Bullying 24/7. That's a whole new level of abuse right there.

good point.

kids often don't take the steps necessary to keep these people out of their pages. Of course the easiest way to fix it is to just not have one of the social network pages at all.

Agreed. It's constant abuse, and honestly sickening.

The days of joining a gym and learning kung-fu, or ka-ra-te are over. Nowadays bullies got guns, so they still win in the end.

Level the playing field some, and maybe I'll entertain the bully's coming back to pick at the peking order.

But that's not really fair is it and also allowing the bully to have once again power over you?

I suppose. But at least they can't torment the child anymore.

Are kids still encouraged to pop a bully in the nose if they give them too much trouble?

Also where classic bullying was between you and the bully and maybe some classmates, everyone online sees this. It makes the effect worse.

For kids who are being bullied, I recommend a small handheld chainsaw. Chop up a few of these assholes and people will be less likely to bully you in the future.

Talk to my sister about this today, the school where her children go or at least the one where my nephew goes the policy is a little messed up.

It is only bulling if on of the person is in higher standing of the other or the person is different then the person is bullying.

Example: Straight Vs Gay not allowed.

Popular Vs. Unpopular not allowed.

Rich Vs. Poor not allowed

But:

Popular Vs. Popular Not bullying

kinda fucked up.

Rich Vs. Rich not bullying

The one guy in college?

Yeah that was pretty messed up.

The one incident that got me thinking about this was a local suicide of a young girl, who was bullied after she accused some popular kid of raping her. It is really very sad.

media hysteria
there is no epidemic anymore than there was

like there was no poisoned halloween candy

and no mass of abductions at malls of kids

it goes through cycles

the gay thing is because of a political agenda. gay kids corpses who killed thmselves are being used by gay rights activists.

Not that I don't have sympathy for these kids being bullied and shit, but I just don't buy the idea that e-bullying is somehow worse than getting punched in the mouth every day for your lunch money.

I think we've developed into a culture or fragile egos and drama queens. That may sound harsh or whatever, but I mean, I remember the last time this was brought up here, and people were making excuses for why you couldn't just turn the fuckin' computer off. Like, oh, it's not that simple.

It fucking-well is that simple.

I'm always gonna think real world bullying is more immediate than online bullshit. I mean, if I get pissed off at some asshole here or at some other board, there's nothing quite so important that I can't just turn the computer off and go fuck my fiance.

And yeah, I understand that kids may not have the same perspective on life as a grown-ass man does who's had to deal with some real world fucked up shit. Maybe that's the fault of the grown-ass adults raising these kids. Both the victims and the bullies. I mean, shit, let's face it. Bullies have some pretty fragile egos themselves, or their dicks wouldn't get hard when they make someone else feel like shit.

Well...it wouldn't be the only way their dicks get hard, at least.

We put so much importance in online bullshit that will only affect us if we allow it to. And maybe parents need to do a better job teaching their kids the difference between a block of text on a screen and a punch to the jaw.

Your mistake is saying that "e-bullying is somehow worse than getting punched in the mouth every day for your lunch money". What I'm saying is that both are happening now.

Also kids don't have the emotional maturity to just walk away from the computer. And they certainly don't have a fiance to fuck.
