A SHIELD movie with bad ass superheroish spy action.

Black Widow, Hawkeye, Fury and some other lesser known characters like Taskmaster would be a lot of fun. I think this would be a cool darker film. Steal the idea for that Green Arrow movie possibly with the Thunderbolts arc that did a similar thing with Hawkeye infiltrating a prison.

Cap 2: The Winter Soldier is woken up from cryo-sleep, and unleashed as an assassin upon the West by Baron Zemo. Cap finds out it's Bucky at the end.

Thor 2: Thanos wants the Tesseract back, and his forces are fucking up the cosmos on a path of destruction towards Asgard. The Korbinite homeworld is in it's path, and they send out a champion to find help. Shit happens on Asgard.. at the end, Beta Ray Bill is accepted as a friend, and given a hammer by Odin. Movie ends with Thor and Beta Ray Bill on their way back to the Korbinite world, only to arrive too late as it explodes. End Thor 2 on a dour note.

I think the Surtur saga without Bill, Loki becoming "good" and Odin dying would be badass. I worry that trying to develop the Bill story just takes too much time in creating a character that is basically Thor in every conceivable way and what's the point of that?

I think you keep Surtur for the final piece of the trilogy. As far as Thor stories go, you can't top it.

And I'd rather have a badass movie than saving something for a trilogy.

Doesn't have to be one or the other. You can have a badass movie and also plan ahead.. which is what Marvel has been doing this entire time.

Agreed. Eliminating Odin puts the entire 9 realms on Thor's shoulders. This would make for an even more glorious final movie as Odin's story would end in the second film and give us a huge downer.

In the comics, Surtur is really Odin's foe, not Thor's. So it makes sense for it to be the second chapter. Loki is 'redeemed' so to speak and can become the final villain again (as he's sort of meant to be).
