It's better. I will stick to old Tom Waits. Is it all quiet rainy day music though?
Fun fact: Tom Waits is credited on an Atmosphere album. He does the beatbox on The Waitress (@1:18, I think he also wrote some of the instrumental parts for the song too).
I don't really like it, but I can see the difference in his vocals. He actually sounds like he's singing in those songs. Did something happen to his voice over the years?

He still sings like that sometimes. I think he feels more comfortable with the harsher voice, though. I like both, but can see how the madder stuff could be a bit of a hard sell.
