Those Afghans are lower than rats.

Just leave then go back and kill them all.

Yes, Nieto. Genocide them.

Ok, some Qurans were burned, with the trash, which is insulting, and awful, and regrettable... I get that... but its just a fucking book.

Rioting over it? Killing people over it?

Fuck that... and fuck them...

If your book, any book, especially one that is supposed to teach you peace and tolerance, is more important to you than human life... then you deserve to be burned along with the books.

Note, I am not talking about Muslims, I am talking about whack jobs of any religion who get so worked up over any slight to their religion that they feel the need to go apeshit in the streets, death threats, using it as justification for violent crime, as justification for murder... yeah, fuck them.

Foreign mindset destroying things that matter to a fourth world country while occupying it, and you wonder why they revolt? Some guys destroyed your towers and you rioted with bigger guns, and don't tell me that it was different because there were people in there, because civil casualties in both Afganistan and Irak are way befond 3000 people, so casualties are not much of an argument. Even civilians.
To develop their conscience and consciousness, to make them aware of what is going on, to prepare the precarious ground for the future alternatives—this is our task: "our" not only as Marxists but as intellectuals, and that means all those who are still free and able to think by themselves and against indoctrination, communist as well as anticommunist.

I just think think there are such deep rooted cultural problems in that country that I'm really skeptical anybody could make any kind of lasting change there. Building a few schools isn't going to change anything.

The shit going on in the Middle East now is a pretty modern phenomenon (20th century onward). It's like a reverse Renaissance. It's not like it's always been the way it is now.

I feel like I should point out that Afghanistan is not in the Middle East. Afghanistan (as well as Pakistan) is a South Asian country. It does not belong to any of the Mid-East groups or share the same cultural history as the Arab countries do, even though the country shares a border with Iran.

The sad thing about that country is that in the 70s Afghanistan was a progressive country by third world standards. The percendages of educated women for instance was around 70% to 80%.

Do you know that USA had a thing called "Escuela de las Americas"? It was a torture-training college for south and central american military. I'm pretty those soldiers teched them spanish in exchange :)
