Well it's about an hour away from the Big Island now.

They are predicting a 6-8 foot wave there. That can cause some damage. They are predicting a smaller wave for us, but one can never be sure.

Roads in the innundation zone are closed now so... we are trapped here.

We are out of the evacuation zone, but one never knows. Hard to predict... Thanks.

Do they hit with a stronger force than a regular wave, like a more violent crash of water or something? :?

It's like a river in that it hits, and then keeps on hitting and hitting.

Good. Give us an update after it hits though, so we know you're okay.

I haven't actually really experienced a significant one so I can't say with 100% certainty. However, they say it is not like a normal wave where is a gentle cresting and a tubular crash to the shore.

In a Tsunami, the water drains from the area rapidly and then a rush of water (more like a wall but not really a wall) comes rushing to shore. This happens several times (it is not just one wave). The force of the wave is supposed to be strong as well as the suction when the water gets pulled out. I believe the waves tend to be more vertical (partially because of the long length of the waves).

tsunamis, and the ocean's depths in general, really scare me.

Hopefully we have electricity afterwards. That's another potential casualty of this (might flood electrical systems).

Sirens going off again.

Estimate 8.2 foot wave for Hilo... Maui (Kahului) 9 feet... 2.3 feet now for Oahu. Hmn larger wave. We'll see...

Oh and since it is a series of waves, it may not be the first waves that are the strongest...

So far nothing at Hilo...

They are reporting some strange ocean activity on Oahu though...

Nothing much happening yet... but it might not be the first waves. Going to walk up the street to see if I can see anything in the ocean.
