Pointing and snickering does not count as a cat-call. ;-)

Like I said, some or more receptive than others.

I wouldn't try this with your Yankee sisters if I were you.

A good rule of thumb is to never do it to somebody you have even a remote chance of seeing again

I get it so it's a kind of long-shot icebreaker...

Mostly I see groups of guys do this and its more about the guys than the girls at that point.

Exactly.

You don't do it with the expectation that she'll fall madly in love with you

The most you really hope for is for her to laugh or make a funny comment back.

I cat-called a girl once when I was totally wasted at a BBQ with some friends of mine. She was walking to her house and I said, "What's up baby?" And she totally lost her shit, and I shrugged it off, "I was just kidding." Then her boyfriend came outside, but there were about 10 of us ROTC guys so it wasn't like he could do anything.

As a general rule I don't cat-call girls.

So in other words next time someone says, "Baby where you going so fast?"

I can respond "Away from a bad line like that."

and it would be socially acceptable?

Perfect, as long as you say it in a joking way.
