Galactus was stopped by the F4 by some random gun that the Human Torch had to travel vast distances to get. He come closer than Doom.

The Skrull armada took over Earth. They come closer than Doom.

Dooms whole point is he's the second smartest guy. Blah blah blah, he's bested so many people. He's got nothing to show for it. Most of his best stories are undone, or alternate universes. And that's because on Earth he can never be used to his full potential.

The only nation on his level is probably Wakanda, and no one is calling the Black Panther a second string guy. He's triumphed over Thanos, the Silver Surfer, Dr Strange, Mephisto, and many others. As chap mentioned, he's as good as anyone in magic, technology, and intelligence. He's probably the best and most interesting villain in all of comics. His motivations aren't actually about beating Richards or being the best, it's really all stemming from pride in his nation and a desire to free his mother from Hell. Doom is what Darkseid wishes he was.

Darkseid rules[ed] a planet though.

Yet.. they where defeated the Skrull armada by the heroes. You know what defeated Doom? Doom. Why? Cause he was fucking bored. If there is anyone who could truly have the world run it's Doom. It's just that he also enjoys the game more than the actually conquering.

This is the kinda shit I was talking about! Cage walked right up to Doom and demanded money, and Cage is still living. Doom comes up with schemes like sending the F4 back in time to dress as pirates and find some treasure for him. Who has Doom ever killed? Sure the Thing but he came back. Even Thors hammer bested Doom :p

A planet without heroes. Every time he tries to take over the Earth he's undone, unless there's terrible writing by Morrison where no one is in character. :P

Seriously though, lots of villains rule entire alien planets, but Doom fears no one. I would love nothing more than a comic of Doom putting Darkseid in his place. If Batman can beat him, Doom could easily do it.

Oh and I think a Doom Batman teamup would be about the coolest comic ever.

And I would probably also put The Thing at #2 on determination and will power.

I honestly think Thing vs. Doom is an underrated rivalry. Both are so bull headed and stubborn they can't help but butt heads. When they fight I always get giddy.

It's a great relationship. Doom has cured him and cursed him. I honestly think he respects Ben more than any other hero outside of Namor.

the Skrulls didn't take over shit. they infiltrated a few places, issued a big ultimatum, and immediately got their asses kicked post-haste.

Doom actually DID take over the earth, defeated his opposition, and then gave it up because he got bored.

and Doom's point is he's the smartest guy. he just doesn't get the credit due to the accursed glory-hog Richards. and the argument can easily be made that Doom's right. did Reed create a time machine? no. has Reed mastered sorcery to go with his science? no. has Reed invented a machine that can travel to Heaven or hell? no. what's Reed done? he's created clothes that don't shrink in the wash. that's great for fans of no-iron cotton Dockers, but who else gives a damn?

:-D

No Geldoff? This list sucks :p

And seriously, you read comics as long as i have, and you have no reason to like Doom above others. Especially now he's Normans lackey :p

Oh yeah totally. He hates Ben but aside from Reed nobody else has flat out kicked Doom's ass like Ben did. Doom respects him for that alone....and of course wants him dead because of it.
