Action Comics #1000 Likely To Be Delayed Again As It Will Debut Bendis' First DC Work

Brian Michael Bendis' writing and Jim Lee's art is the perfect combination for a delay.

Source: TV & Movies Dot Com

In December, it was announced that Action Comics #1000 would be delayed a month from March to April 18, perfectly coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the comic down to the day. But with the addition of another creative team, the issue is likely to be delayed again.

Brian Michael Bendis, king of the Marvel delay, will make his DC debut in the celebratory issue with a backup story. Joining him on art is the DC king of delays Jim Lee. This '95 Chicago Bulls of delays is unheard of and will likely result in the issue being further delayed.

The special issue will be released as two separate versions.

The first, revealed at NYCC, is a 168 page $30 hardcover, retrospective of Superman's history revisiting classic stories from over the decades. It will also include literary essays from Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer and Paul Levitz and a poster of all 1,000 cover to Action Comics. The hardcover volume will be published on April 18, 2018 as Action Comics #1000: 80 Years of Superman.

Meanwhile the floppy version of Action Comics #1000 is written by Peter Tomasi and Dan Jurgens, that will draw on all kinds of talent from the comics industry, including a story written by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. This floppy edition is oversized at $5.99 and is set to release in March 2018.

C'mon, you guys...this is gonna be right in Bendo's wheelhouse. Nothing says "street level" like Superman!

God, it's gonna be turrible.

So have they decided to rebrand it as All Talk, No Action Comics or Inaction Comics?

Luckily, he's only doing a backup story. So, you can skip it.

That's the kindest thing you've said on this thread. :-D :-D

Now only if that applied to him working at DC very soon.

I'm as happy to pile on Bendis as the next guy but this is just a backup story. He's a "celeb" writer (for whatever that means in comics) and this is a historical issue, so he probably just wanted to be a part of it and DC said OK. There is no indication here that Bendis is going to become a full-time Superman writer. So far as I know the titles he's going to be working on have not been announced.
