Okay we need a thread like this. We all wonder if some thing is good or not so here is where to find opinions of comics.

So is Secret Avengers any good?

Not really.

Sort of a mediocre and needless Avengers spin-off that never really found its footing.

Thanks Melon.

I saw some Secret Avengers by Rick Remender HCs at the used book store. They are a decent price so I was wondering if they're worth reading.

Every time I read an Avengers book, I feel sorely let down.

Not really.

Brubaker's run was OK, but it ended at #12 just as it was getting good.

Nick Spencer's 4 issue fill-in run during Fear Itself was TERRIBLE.

Warren Ellis' 6 issue run was a lot of fun though, each issue is a done-in-one story that is kind of like Global Frequency but with the Avengers and he works with some fantastic artists, McKelvie, Kev Walker, Maleev, Immonen, Lark and Aja. If you pick up any of it, get this run.

Remender's run was decent, it picked up from Brubaker's and also tied into X-Force. I haven't read the last arc though yet.

So yeah, a mixed bag, get the Ellis trade.

The Ellis issues were very hit or miss, the rest were just miss.

I liked the opening arc, and Remenders' run. The rest wasn't very good IMO.

Same for me, the first arc was great then the book got caught up in too many crossovers and tie-ins and I lost interest. When Hawkeye took the leader role and Venom joined the team I started getting into the book again and liked it til the end.

Brian Wood writes Scarlet Spider? Did he take over recently? Because the first few issues of that book were terrible and I had to forget its existence.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

Thanks guys. Saw the Ellis book cheap so I might go pick that up.

Old stuff, but has anyone read the Jack Kirby OMAC stuff?

It's automatic that you'll like it if you're already a Kirby fan

The bad thing was there were so few issues

I remember enjoying the John Byrne re-imagining, but it's been a while since I've read it

What if you're a fan of the old Marvel Conan, would you still like it?
