Are comics even worth speculating on?

Postby L Independant » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:21 pm

I remember collecting comics because they'd be worth money. I'd have a good story, and if I needed, I could sell it (which I did when I realized the lunacy of holding onto a comic worth $20 that rarely budged above that price). Now, I just can't fathom the idea. Hell, I've even gone to trades on a lot of stuff.

So do you collect comics for value? Or do you just collect them to have entire runs and storylines?

I collect comics for the story and the entertainment. I don't believe that, with only one or two exceptions, any comic printed after say, 1989, will be worth any big money in the future...

Can't wait to see variants in the quarter bins.

The whole CGC thing has me baffled, too.

I have a few that I could probably sell for some money. Nothing big, but I could unload it. Like, a bunch of first printings of minis that came out and stuff.

All the time I've read comics it never occured to me that they would be worth money. I just bought them cause they were fun to read and the art was awesome.

The general public does belive that comics are worth a small fortune. When people find out I read comics the first question I get is "which one of your comics is worth the most money?"

If you ever wanted to do it for money, I'd do it when the hype is hot, or you usually get squat. I speak from experience.

(Waited too long on the Wolverine #20 Brown Costume variant...)

Nope. It's not worth the hassle. I have the Superman/Batman Supergirl storyline, all printings of it, but I wouldn't sell it now because no one cares. Quite frankly, I like having it. I would put it on the wall like I used to have it but that's too much effort.

I buy comics for entertainment. While I don't plan on selling any of my comics in the near future, I am getting paid to sell my dad's friend's comic collection on ebay.

£20 at a con three days before I met Gaiman. My comic shop guy really let me down on sourcing one.

That's because you have to add it before you submit the thread.
