This is exactly my problem with it. He's one of my favorite characters and always has been, but now he's kind of ruined.

No he's not, it was all a giant yellow fear bird's fault

I will say that unlike a lot of people, I've really liked Scott the last few years. He may have behaved in some magneto-ish ways at times, but it's generally made pretty good sense considering the circumstances. Also, he hasn't left the team to go mope like 80s Cyclops would have (probably at least twice by now). Can't say I'm happy about this recent turn, as we're clearly headed for people being "disappointed in Cyclops" (most likely the time travel versions of Jean and his younger self) and I think that works better if you've made difficult morally grey decisions, not the go mad with cosmic power and kill your mentor ones.

Well since what happened with the Phoenix was Tony and Steve's fault, Scott was right.

This has been nothing but a story of ascending dickhood from both sides. That Scott is now the patron saint of dicks is disappointing though.

So how does this ruin Cyclops any more than it ruined Jean 30 years ago?

Bendis Sucks. The last page of this comic would have been pretty ok had it not been for the final page and the spoon feeding of "He's the Dark Phoenix". Honestly took me right out of the story and just showed how dumb Bendis must think the reader is. Also will the hulk stuff be dealt with in another book? If not it certainly is a giant waste here.

It was revealed that it wasn't Jean in X-Factor #1.

because Scott is obviously in control of his actions, and only became Dark Phoenix after he did all these terrible things.

That was a much better story for all characters involved. This one...not so much.

After reading it, it's so incredibly easy to fix the character that it's not even funny.

That being said, just wow.

and obviously, they will fix it eventually. But in the meantime enjoy one of the few well done "heel turns" in comics that has actually been building for a very long time and feels natural.

The Doombug Method of Fixing Cyclops

Cyclops: Avengers came in and they caught me red-handed
Killing the Professor next door.
Picture this I was in a really stupid outfit,
blasting him with fire to the floor.

How could I forget
That I still had fans rooting for me?
All this time they were standing there
In shock at my heinous deed.

Iron Man: How you can recover from your descent into a villain?
Betraying all th'X-Men while you brains a' sizzlin.
You better watch your back before the next event.
Best if you have a plan so alla your good will don't get spent.

To be a true player you have to know how to play
When they hate you, convince them that you're okay
Never admit to a word when they make a claim
And you tell them "Avengers, no way!"

Cyclops: But they caught me with Phoenix power.
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: Saw me murd'rin' the Professer
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: They accused me of murder.
Iron Man: It wasn't me

Cyclops: But they spoiled in a newspaper!
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: They saw me lookin' grim.
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: Heard the words as I killed him
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: Heard the screams getting louder
Iron Man: It wasn't me.

Cyclops: They stayed until it was over
