Everything else spiraled out of that decision.

He didn't summon it, it was coming anyway.

Sure. But he embraced it, rather than working with the people trying to fight it. The X-Men have fought the Phoenix off in the past by themselves, much less with the combined might of the Avengers as well.

Instead, he pretty much did everything in his power to roll out the welcome mat for the Phoenix.

Also, considering this isn't the last issue, the easy money is on the Phoenix has been corrupting Cyclops from the start and doing a much better job at it than the other characters or Xavier ain't dead. Or Magneto eats it too.

Or some/all of this is in Cyclops' head?

No one wanted him to work with them. They showed up in force and said "Step aside, we've got it from here. Hand over the girl so Wolverine can get stabby."

Because there was nothing to work with. They were on opposing sides of the argument, and Cyclops wasn't going to change his mind. Fanatics tend to not be very open to seeing other sides of the debate. Some of his speeches were down right lunacy, with talks of messiahs and shit. :smt011

So now we're purposely forgetting scenes/actions?

No one was with the Wolverine stabbing plan except hope herself, who was going to let it happen. :smt102

Except that's tacitly not true. Hope has been confirmed by multiple entities from the future that she's the mutant messiah. There was more than enough info from Cyke's point of view that this was the right thing to do (notwithstanding that Chaps an idiot, which is even more evidence). There are only two reasons why Scott had the Phoenix force to begin with: Steve Rogers and Tony Stark.

Cyclops was told by Cable, his son, that the Phoenix was coming to save the Earth and that the Avengers would wrongly try to stop it. That's a perfectly good reasoning.

What comes after, not so much, but he was going on the words of his son, a trusted hero.

If anyone read AVX #11 this week, you would probably know the person rumored to die throughout this all was actually Professor X as he is apparently deep-sixed by Cyclops himself in battle. My thoughts? Basically, this shows how shitty the writting has been throughout the whole saga as this death felt very anti-climatic. Isn't this the upteenth time Xavier has died by now? Plus, what are the odds that he will brought back to life down the road again? Also, this whole issue just confirms that the writers have an anti-Cyclops vendetta and are hellbent on making him more hated than he already is. With that said, I really can't wait for AVX to wrap up as this is Civil War-level bad.

EDIT - "SPOILERS" added to title and "SPOILER SPACE" added to OP ~RU

spoiler tag your shit, don't black it out

When you spoiler tag it doesn't show up in the preview box. ;)

And yeah, Marvel press release spoiled it for me.

I just read issues 1-5 of this series and I'll probably play catch-up later but yeah it really seems like they're trying to make Cyclops the big bad villain in this series. I guess it's just the way comics go. He's been getting more and more dickish since Jean's death.

The overreacting to everything bothered me. Like, six days before this everyone in the MU was buddies.
