I just read #4 and #5 back to back.

These single issues play to Hickman's strength. I wasn't a fan of the opening arc, (too short, threat was ill-defined, art was mediocre) but these little origin stories have been fun comics. Not groundbreaking. But fun.

Looking forward to the next issue with Captain Universe.

I like this new Smasher, but I am not quite sure how she works out being from Earth. How will she serve the empire and the guard if she's not there. :smt017

Great issue, just like the one before it. Really loving Hickman's Avengers books.

Because one of her Avengers team-mates can teleport her right there?

Well she's got the stargate thingie she used to get there also.

I just think for a member of the elite guard, that they would want her attention focused on serving the empire. It would've been fine if they left her as one of the lesser subguardians, but they promoted her to superguardian which would mean (IMO) that she be part of the Imperial Guard that is dedicated to defending the empire, not hanging around Earth.

Exactly, Ultraboy, er I mean Smasher should have stayed with the Subs to have avoided this.

Have we talked about how much we love that this issue basically spun out of Morrison's New X-Men yet?

Is that the Shi'Ar crisis on the first page?

I was looking for clues to if it was something to do with War Of Kings or anything else recent, but it goes that far back? Cool.

well seeing as how so many cosmic things spin out of things on Earth, and Shi'ar kind of have a working relationship with the X-Men it would probably be a good idea to have an operative on earth.

The panels of the old Smasher falling to Earth are right out of NXM's Imperial arc.

I liked the fact that the new Smasher is the Granddaughter of Dan Dare. Nice golden age connection there.
