It's odd that since the start of the event Frag has spoken the most amount of sense. :drunk

Well, we know that the Phoenix is on a collision course with Earth. To the best of my knowledge, that's all we know. Cap's presuming that it's coming because of Hope because they share the same energy source.

Taking a step back, there's two options here:

1) Get Hope off-world and hope that the Phoenix follows.

2) Keep Hope on world and hope that she can control it.

If they choose option one and the Phoenix doesn't follow, Earth goes boom. If they choose option two and they're wrong, they stab the shit out of Hope and put the Phoenix down (just like what happened the last time it came to Earth).

Unless there's some sort of evidence that the Phoenix is definitely going to follow Hope, I wouldn't move her off world. I can understand Cap wanting to control the situation for Option Two (especially as he has an Avenger brought onto the team expressly for killing things) but Option One seems as needlessly risky as doing nothing and trusting Cyke that everything's going to be alright.

Yeah only, we've already seen her go all "carrie" on everyone both times she's used the phoenix force so far. She doesn't lose complete control but that's because it hasn't attached itself to her yet.

How? Because she saved them from Bastion? Or is there something from Second Coming I'm forgetting.

The reason Bastion wanted to kill her was because she was the mutant messiah.

That doesn't seem like such a great plan to me.

Wolverine made some pretty good points when he was explaining that to Cap.

Yep. It's quite possibly Captain America's worst plan ever. I can't think of any worse plans he's come up with and we're talking about a guy who abandoned his command position when Washington D.C. was under attack to do... no one really knows. But he DID jump out of a Quincarrier. That was probably fun.

(no, BK, I'm never letting this go. :P)

Scott doesn't have a clue about what the phoenix wants. Is he not noticing how its destroying dozens of planets with no problem?

OF COURSE HE'S NOT.

Scott is on Earth. Even the Avengers (besides the Space team) have no clue that the Phoenix is tearing a path through planets to get to Earth. Nova knows but he passed out before giving that warning.

No, the people on the ground have no clue about this. We, the READER, know this but you have to remember that Cyclops and Captain America aren't reading the comic and are only privy to small bits of the full story.

You have a selective memory. I had to dig out X-Force #13 but he told Hope

"they look at you as a Messiah, but you are not. You are the Adversary."

"You must be killed, to ensure that humanity lives. That is our purpose."

And finally "For if you survive, nothing survives."

Bastion just used the messiah title because that was the term used to describe her.

Actually, the only person who knows on Earth is Magneto who felt the Phoenix tear through a planet when he and Tony were borrowing energy from various planets to battle each other. However he acted oblivious to that fact in this issue.

All we learned in Second Coming was that mutants started appearing again with Hope's arrival. I don't remember the Phoenix being part of any prophecy.

During the final chapter of Second Coming, Hope sparked up with the Phoenix power for the first time when bestowing mutant powers on the Five Lights. Emma Frost was a witness.

That is TRUE. Mags knew in VS. after reaching out to... um... draw magnetism throughout the galaxy or something.

And now... selective amnestia.

Actually, I don't think that's true. Tony Stark used the Phoenix energy signature he found on Nova to map the Phoenix's trajectory. It stands to reason that he knew the path the Phoenix took went through existing planets.

So you think Cap knocked Logan off in the same location he was at during the first part of Fear Itself? :P :-D

I think right now Magneto is having selective amnesia. But then again.. who knows.

Yeah, you shouldn't stab her. You need an Xavier level telepath. Or maybe every telepath you can find.

Those would almost all be exclusively mutants so maybe do all this without pissing off the mutant population.
