The next arc of DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS marks the NEW 52 debut of not one but TWO heroes – Black Lightning and Blue Devil !

Written by Marc Andreyko and illustrated by Robson Rocha, this 5-issue arc asks the question: can two very different heroes keep it together without killing each other long enough to unlock a new corner of the DC Universe?

Speaking to THE SOURCE, Andreyko said:

"I can't begin to explain how excited I am to be writing this book! When I first heard the high-concept, I was instantly writing scenes in my head. I've always been a fan of the 'buddy concept,' especially when it's love/hate, and teaming these two seemingly disparate characters together makes for some great story dynamics. How did Blue Devil and Black Lightening meet? Why are they working together? Do they even like each other? All ... well, ok, some ... will be answered. Add in a bloodthirsty bad guy, a crazy drug, a guy in a demon suit and another who shoots electricity, mix well. Now enjoy!"

My first response to this is that Black Lightning shouldn't want to kill anyone; he's like Batman in this regard. Also, he's one of those characters who tends to get along with all the other heroes. But hey, this is the All-New, All-Lame DCnU Version, right?? So, ANYthing goes...

As for Blue Devil, will he at least be allowed to be funny?? Can you give him THAT much?? But this is the All-New, All-Lame DCnU Version, so that's probably a "no", then.

They don't mean "killing each other" in the literal sense. It's an expression which is assumed that anyone over the age of 5 is aware of.

In the CBR interview they address the tone and plot of this 5-part story.

The designs suck. Two more characters down the ol' meat grinder.

In the DiDio era, I don't put that sort of thing past them. As you may recall, Judd Winick already had Black Lightning kill someone, until fans like me, as well as BL creator Tony Isabella, verbally smacked him upside the head enough to make him change that. If Dan and the Gang would try it once, they'd do it again. Also, like I said, the REAL Black Lightning gets along with pretty much everyone, so Blue Devil wouldn't really piss him off.

But hey, this is the All-New, All-Lame DCnU version...

Not Jim-Lee-style Darker and Edgier enough.
He needed more lines.

I don't know...I like Andreyko, but this smells bad to me.

In the CBR interview, Andreyko makes it pretty plain that he's taking Blue Devil back to his fun roots, and this storyline looks like it's going to be pretty good value. I'm in.

That Blue Devil looks more like caricature instead of a real design. Hilarious if it is, but if it's real...

it's so much crap. they'll be lucky to move 15,000 units of this, with half of those destined for the dollar bin
