Brian Bendis to Go on Trial for Crimes Against Marvel

If that's not a provocative title, I don't know what is.

Source: Marvel

Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen are going on trial for their crimes against the Marvel Universe.  Nah, we're just yanking your chain.  Why would anyone consider the Great One's defining runs on the Avengers and X-Men a crime against anything?

However, Marvel did reveal a new one-word teaser, which hints at an upcoming X-Men storyline.  My bet is that Scott Summers, noble martyr whose reputation has been sullied by Wolverinephiles, will finally have his name cleared in a public court case.  Bendis has been singlehandedly cleaning Cyclops of a decade's worth of terrible stories over the past year, and the next logical step is to finally get those pesky cries of  "murder" out of the way.

For those in the comments, just remember, if you reference Avengers vs. X-Men: Consequences, you've already lost.

Here's the teaser, we'll find out exactly what it means at NYCC.

If it's a Marvel crossover event, it's almost guaranteed Phoenix will not come back in it.

I figure she'll come back in something like Slapstick.

I would consider his run of the Avengers a crime against everything I loved about the Avengers. I think he's a case of being told how great you are too many times. But it is good to see him starting to actually try to write good comics again with his current X-Men run.

I wholeheartedly agree. I kept buying The Avengers feeling sure it had to get better but it never did....

As for All-New X-men I was buying mainly for Stuart Immomen's art plus the fact that I didn't read X-Books (not since Claremont/Byrne anyway) and thought I should give it a try.

Then they hit me with a crossover so I dropped it.

Magneto went on trial for crimes against humanity - maybe it's Cyclops's turn? :smt102

There were certainly many parts of his Avenger's run that were a crime.

Maybe the Phoenix Five are being tried for their crimes while possessed by an alien entity? should be a relatively quick trial...

Or the Avengers are put on trial for killing the Phoenix? :smt102

Magneto got off on a technicality.

Technically speaking, he used mind control to change one judge's verdict

Reed Richards defended Galactus awhile back... think he'd lawyer for Scott Summers, too?
