Bye Bye, Hawkguy: Fraction Writing Final Hawkeye Script

Bye Bye, Hawkguy: Fraction Writing Final Hawkeye Script

It looks like the end of Hawkeye is for real, bro.

With Hawkeye #21 (originally solicited for June, actually coming out who the fuck knows when) carrying the title "The Finale Part 1," the end of Matt Fraction and David Aja and Annie Wu's universally acclaimed book was imminent. In fact, if the book didn't take so many six month long publishing breaks with no warning, it probably would have run its course by now. In any case, Fraction tweeted this yesterday:

And the world wept.

But is there hope for the series yet? I mean, if the final issue never actually gets published due to inexplicable delays, then, technically, the series never ends, right? For more info on this, we asked the same source Marvel uses to decide when issues of Hawkeye will be published, and it told us:

Reply hazy try again.

What? No, that can't be right. Let's try again.

Ask again later.

The hell?! *shakes vigorously*

Better not tell you now.

Dammit! What about now?!

Cannot predict now.

Arrggh! *tosses the source across the room*

Concentrate and ask again.

Well folks, it looks like we're just gonna have to wait and see. If nothing else, at least you've got plenty of time to make your peace with it.

Sad to hear about this, but at least it being ended the way the creative team wants it to.

Makes sense, Fraction seems to have fallen out of love with his Marvel work and is now all about Sex Criminals and (to a lesser extent) Satellite Sam and the new Casanova.

He's just going through his 'too cool for superheroes' phase I guess, he'll probably come back to Marvel in a few years like Ellis has. Or maybe even DC!

The comically long delays between issues aside, I gave up on the book after that stupid X-mas Dog issue.

I realized after publishing that I should have made the headline "Interview: Magic 8-Ball Talks Hawkeye Publishing Schedule." Oh well, live and learn.

As long as he keeps writing books with characters that I don't care about.

That was the last straw for me, too.

The one day Hoffer takes off, and it all goes to hell...

Wait, after writing that, I realize I should have made the remark, "Hoffer would have caught it. I know that in my heart."

Why am I suddenly so uncertain? Second guessing myself? I just wanted to get a few laughs. I'm... I'm such a screw up! This whole post is ruined!

I've been following this on Marvel Digital Unlimited and was blaming MDU's erratic schedule all this time................

Wonder which big Hawkeye moment comes out first... this last issue of Hawkeye or Avengers 2?

We should get #19 and #20 fairly soon. #19 is scheduled to ship 7/30 - it was only bumped one week the last time the shipping date was changed, so Aja must have been close to finishing it. #20 by Wu is scheduled to ship 8/13.

#21 by Aja is scheduled for 9/10, but I'm 99% sure that date will be delayed. I'll guess sometime in November - assuming he's working at a five page a month pace!

I wonder how much lead time Aja was given for the first three issues of this series, which came out monthly. A year?

Is the series coming to an end or just Fraction's time on the book?
